I've lived in NM for almost 20 years now and have NEVER been able to get drawn for an antelope tag. Eleven years ago our secretary and I were talking and she said her Dad owned property near Ft. Sumner and he got antelope tags every year. Well, I made some calls and was able to get 2 tags. My Dad and I went as I was soooo excited to get to finally go hunt these critters. Hunted tthere every year since. Some of you have seen pics. Was looking for another photo and ran across this one. It's of me and my Dad on that hunt with my 1st goat. Been chasing one as big ever since. Funny how that works sometimes. Dad's been having some small strokes and isn't well. Surely wouldn't remember what hunt or where the pic was from....sad.... My best hunts have always been with my father, whether we filled our tags or not. Thanks for the post.

That is one of the coolest pictures I’ve seen! My dad was my best friend, Best man at my wedding and my hunting partner. I lost him 32 years ago and it still seems like yesterday. You cherish every minute you get to have with him sir. I’d give everything I have in the safe to be able to take a picture like that with my dad.

Dick I hope you're kidding about stalking up close! That's why I haven't shot one with a handgun. 200yds is a short putt here.....nowhere to hide! The caliber thing is kinda funny. Dad was shooting a .243 the first year he came and the wind was blowing so bad we couldn't even figure out where the damned bullets were hitting. So....he brought a 7mm Weatherby the next year. Who knows what bullet he was shooting...didn't matter much....no more wind problems.. I shoot a .270 and a 110gn Barnes TTSX at about 3500fps. It's a killer. Have shot a .270 WSM with the same bullet but it's only about 125fps faster and folks look at me funny for using that big a gun for antelope. Ended up selling Glenn the .270WSM and sent him some loads....see if he comments on what they do...VERY effective.... I must admit, that big'un ran and I was excited so followed up real quick and shot him in the butt running. You can see the hole in his rear. He would have gone down in about 50yds if I had waited....

Yup, I was kidding! That's how most Antelope hunting is, there's one behind every tree but no trees! Think I've shot 9 but we don't usually have QUITE as much wind as NM & Wyoming.
