Kinda saddens me that family isn't happily sitting on these. Hope they go to a good home at least.

Not much in the way of provenance. Without a verified letter from the family, I would not consider these JW guns. Says "attributed to the collection". That means nothing.

I've no idea if they have documentation or not...If I planned on being a serious bidder, that'd be a no brainer. Obviously if they don't, the guns won't sell for nearly as much but someone would still be getting a nice pair of Pre-War S&W 38/44's with the scare 5" barrel length. I do know that Milestone Auctions is a reputable auction house & I seriously doubt that they're out to deliberately defraud anyone. I merely posted this because I figured some here would find it interesting.

The package is worth well north of the opening bid plus premium even with no provenance. Wish they could be had for that.

Buy the steak not the sizzle, like Cubrock said the price is no where near what they are worth before we get to any famous persons name attachment. That may change before they sell though...

Anyone can slap some nice grips on a gun with JW and say they belonged to the Duke. Not saying the House would do that, but others do it all the time. And yes it is interesting. Really sweet guns but if that's all they have for provenance, they aren't going to get no 20K for them, I wouldn't think, but one never knows.

That is probably a bargain, if the total package interests you. The JW connection would be an added value to some folks.....
