I ended up deciding to buy one of the 10mm Blackhawks from Jason at Lipsey's, mostly as a platform for a Hamilton Bowen project. I thought I'd get Hamilton to ream the 10mm cylinder out to 10mm Magnum, a round that looks fun to tinker with, and have the aux .40 S&W - a caliber I truly despise - cylinder cut to 38-40. Since it's going to Hamilton, I'm sure there are a "few little things" he'll suggest as well. Then I'll get a decent set of grips and I'll have a nice gun to futz around with.
After a couple of years of finally learning to really shoot a rifle, I want to get back to big bore handguns...and Max has been a terrible influence on me! I love the rifles, but launching bullets out a long long way is an expensive game that can only be played in certain places. I have to drive 2+ hours to find a 1000 yard range, but I can shoot big bore handguns in my back yard. Plus, and this came as a real shock to me, I'm not 25 years old anymore. The run and gun hop, skip and jump rifle and 3-Gun matches do take a toll.
Anyhow, I've really enjoyed hammering away the last couple of months with the big guns! Besides, after getting used to $4000 glass, custom pistol work no longer looks so expensive!

I'm now up to 4 guns chambered in 10mm Magnum... ( a new custom cylinder for my Buckeye Blackhawk, a S&W 610 reamed to 10 Mag, my original Automag 4... the reason I got into the cartridge in the 1st place, & a custom 10" Contender barrel... in the revolver the 40 S&W chambering, IMO is a waste, unless you shoot 40 S&W auto a lot... handloading allows powder choices that can match the 40 S&W even in the 10 Mag ( Trailboss ) I personally like the cartridge... as must be evident... guessing you're going to love your custom...

Since the 10 MM is supposed to be an auto pistol duplicate for the 41 Magnum revolver cartridge. Then a 10 MM magnum is what? A 41 magnum magnum and since it is for a revolver will there be a 41 magnum magnum auto cartridge? Just curious.

Actually the 10mm Magnum comes closer to .41 Mag ballistics than does the entry level 10mm. I too have been playing with one lately in the form of a Super Redhawk and it's been enjoyable. Haha! Michael, don't blame me!

WHIT... trying to read between the lines... so you're shooting a 10 mm Super Redhawk, or a 10mm Magnum Super Redhawk???
& I would agree... most 10 mm loading I would not put in the "magnum" classification... yes... I'm sure there are maximized 10mm that get there...
I've not pushed the limits of the 10 mm Magnum myself... most are loads that would be safe in my Automag 4 ( what I would call entry level magnum loads ) not that I've got a couple revolvers & that Contender... I'll be working things up...

Just a standard 10mm Super Redhawk. I've had it for a few weeks now and I've been testing it for accuracy.

Thanks... my S&W 610 was originally a 10 mm & was reamed to 10 Mag... personally... the Super seems an awfully big & stout gun for the 10 mm cartridge... but I'm guessing there could be some extreme accuracy possibilities there

This would make for a great deer gun for someone who is recoil sensitive.

Nice try, Max! I'm going to initially run some of the Double Tap 10mm Magnum, then seriously take a look at the reloads. I just ordered a bunch of brass from Starline.
BTW, since I talked to you, it looks like my Cape Buffalo trip in SA is coming together…it'll be with a Marlin 45/70 lever gun. If it comes off, I'm going stay a few days extra and do some plains game hunting with the BFR 45/70. I don't necessarily want another zebra or wildebeest, bur hey, you take what Africa gives you!
I'm also looking at doing some work with the .30 Carbine in my Blackhawk…it's loud, and big fun. I just ordered some of the Buffalo Bore heavy .30.
BTW BTW, our friends at Kahr/MR are very happy with the video I just cut for them. Good for us!
