Watch what Magnum said. They do multiply. I picked up an 83 4.75" last March with an extra 45 acp cylinder. The only thing I've done is broken some edges and took some tension off of the trigger return spring. I'll start making some grips for the 475 here in a couple of weeks. It's a field grade model wearing the Pachmeyers. Shoots great but kinda ugly.
Now just waiting on my Lyman 452-651 325 gr GC mold to make it back from Lyman. It was casting undersized.
Nice score!

Same problem, they sent it back with a couple wrinkly boolits they cast from it, still not in spec, at least the front half of the boolit, and told me they fixed it. I'm thinking about getting either the RCBS 300-SWC or an LBT 300gr LFN. It'd be nice to have a 3 or 4 cavity.

Congrats on obtaining a great one. Dan

Another option in the Keith style would be the MP-454-308. Available in two and four-cavity, plus there's also the option to cast HP's if you so choose...

Perry,
you might take a look at the Lee 452-300RF. six cavity molds are pretty cheap and while I haven't tested it on game it seems like it would do really well.
below is a picture of a couple of boolits I water tested. using .45 colt cases and a near max charge of 296 both penetrated 9, 20 pound cat litter jugs of water.

I've got a 6 banger Lee 255gr mould that I like. Boolits sure pile up quick when you drop 6 at a time! I've considered the 300gr. Have you tested it for accuracy at 100-150yds? Do you know the nose length(s).

no, i'm afraid I haven't had a chance to test it past 25 yards. I don't know the nose lengths either but I can measure them for you.
if they'll fit in your FA and if you have a way to size them and add the gas check (I don't lol) then I can send you some to test if you'd like.

That would be excellent! As cast would be great if you have some. No need to powder coat them for me. What alloy do you use and do you waterdrop or air cool? You can throw em in with the grips whenever your done. No rush. p

My RCBS 300's are WW's with 10% linotype, then water quenched, lubed with Carnuba Red. They drop from the mold just a fuzz over .454.

You will love this revolver. I have a 6” M83 in 454 with a 45 Colt cylinder, too. Mine will shoot just about any properly sized bullet well but is especially fond of the 45-300G from Accurate Molds. There is one detail that I learned with mine — when using open sights you will probably find your revolver properly regulated for the full throttle 454 loads. When you decide to use your 45 Colt cylinder with tamer fodder, you will need a taller front sight. Just call the folks at FA. They will know just what you need. Welcome to the club! And, enjoy!

"You know, when I started my FA search I decided that if I found a good deal and the gun was mag-na-ported I'd not let that stop me from buying it. I have a 4" Redhawk that I put a 454 cylinder in and I had it mag-na-ported, 4 port. It works well. Same with my Kimber 325wsm. At this point I'm gonna leave it as is, do some shooting and go from there."
Snyd:
I have to agree with you, this Freedom Arms single action is perfect, just the way it arrived!
With the long barrel and the weight of the revolver it is going to be a dream to shoot!
Wishing you many happy years of ownership and use with this beauty,
J.D. Press
