I have an even more rare and interesting Smith on the way in a couple of days.... Can't wait to see what you got. I have a couple scarce s&w 45s that are among my favorites. the 625 classic 45 colt, the 26-1 which was a blued 5" tapered barrel 45 colt, and the rarest of mine, the pre lock 45 acp springfield armory mountain gun. Would love to stumble upon one of the 26-1 overrun guns. I think there was something like 30 made. Just like the standard guns but with out the Georgia state patrol markings.

Well guess I cant fool you mike. Yes, awaiting a 26-1 GSP in wood box, not an overrun though, like you say super scarce. I have wanted one of the GSP guns since they came out but never could afford one, till now.

That 26-1 is a great one! I love mine and would only move it along if I were ever to find one of the overrun guns.

Never heard of a Smith & Wesson/Springfield Armory revolver, nor a “Springfield Armory Mountain Gun.” Both Springfield Armory (opening in 1777, supplying rifles to our military until the phaseout of the M-14 in 1968), and Smith & Wesson (opening in 1852 and still very much in production) are located in Springfield, Massachusetts. Springfield Armory reopened as the Springfield Armory National Historic Site, also known as the Springfield Armory Museum, and maintains a comprehensive collection of small arms, rifles, handguns and machine guns, and is open to the public. ***** nolongcolt.... thanks for the tip. Spotting numerous errors of fact in this thread on S&W forum. Nothing wrong with S&W commemorating the real Springfield Armory; various Smith & Wessons were sent across town for evaluation & testing at the Armory, in mind of government contracts. David Bradshaw

Yes but what mike454 talks about does exist. I have seen several for sale. It is a Mountain Gun in .45 ACP commemorating Springfield Armory.
