www.collectorsfirearms.com/texas-wagon-train-commemorative-com2122/I can't recall seeing one of these come up in the past. I thought there might be some 44-40 fans here that could be interested. Don't care for the commemorative part, but I don't think that's bumping the price up either and certainly doesn't make it shoot any different.

They're not that uncommon.
They're the only contemporary .44-40 I know of that S&W has made.

I didn't know that, but I don't keep up with N frames or the 44-40 either. Thanks for straightening that out. I've been getting that feeling lately that my firearms interests are too narrow... but then another sweet SA comes up for sale!

I have been told by owners of this model that they were literally just slapped together by S&W, intended to be safe queens and never fired. Owners have reported all kinds of functioning problems with them. No personal experience, but I was talked out of buying one a few years ago.

You don't see them often, but you do see them from time to time. I had one once. Never shot it. Cylinder throats on these are reportedly way oversized for .44-40. Can't remember if the bores are oversized, too. Something rattling around in my head about them using the same barrels that they used on their .44 Mags, which were .003" too large for .44-40 bullets.

I see them all the time on Gunbroker, there is 6 on there right now. Never had one, but thought about it many times. Never have heard about all these issues before though. Funny thing about the .44-40 is the listed bullet diameter, usually shown as .426-.427, which are not easy to find. Winchester used to make a jacketed bullet that size but are rare. Most modern guns will use a .429 bore which is fine and standard bullets work. In my Colt SAA, I get .428 bullets from Desperado Bullets that work great and I shoot .429 jacketed often in my Uberti 1873 rifle, or lead of the same size. All work fine. Its not worth getting worked about the diameter unless its just insane. Bigger issue is chamber size. Sometimes if the neck area is tight, some brands of brass wont fit if using a larger dia bullet. It all depends...
