No worries about vaporizing a fiber optic front sight. They do get smoky (as shown in pict)after some shooting, but it wipes right off. I put over 15,000 rounds thru the pictured .475, most with a fiber optic front. IIRC, I replaced the light pipe once because it was getting a bit dull. Picture is from when I was shooting the .475 a lot -- couldn't do this offhand with the 475 today. FWIW, Paul

For those that shoot irons with porting, does the soot change the view of the front sight? Does it make it mottled and grey or flat black or does it not leave deposits on the face of the sight?

After a range session the side of the HiViz sight get sooty. I never even think of wiping it off until I get home and clean the gun. In short, for me with this 454 RH the HiViz sight and magnaport is a non issue. In this pic you can't even tell it's a HiViz sight. In the bottom pic the gun is all cleaned up and purdy and you can clearly see it. I like the magnaport on this 4" 454.
