Further update: Email today from Karl. Says he has 10 inches of snow in Vermont. Has examined the Mountain Revolver and he says he can fix it. Gave him the go ahead and asked that he bead blast it when finished. The Pachmyrs that were OEM left black pitting all over the gripframe and there is a goobered up spot where the front sight is pinned in.

Gave him the go ahead and asked that he bead blast it when finished. The Pachmyrs that were OEM left black pitting all over the gripframe and there is a goobered up spot where the front sight is pinned in. Tom I put some Pachmyr's on a Stainless gun that had been bead blasted and it marred the finish on the gun. You may want to consider changing the grips to something else. I never figured the rubber to rub against the grip frame that much.
Bead Blasting: The pits scratches and anything else that is present will be magnified, if not removed before hand. Karl will have to polish or remove blemishes before he blasts. Sounds like someone who was not that knowledgeable about S&W revolvers got after that front sight. The pins on the front sights, many times have to be broken, to be removed. They usually do not drive straight out, but each side has to be worked on. S&W did this on purpose. Their thinking was that they did not want the pins coming out or the front sights coming loose. It works, but can be frustrating, if or when a change is in order.
Overall, it sounds like you are going to get a lot of enjoyment out of this pistol, once you get it back in your hands. Anxious to see the end results.

Thanks for the offer on the Pachys but I don't use them. I have three sets of wood grips to be tried by my grandson to see which one he likes. I'm going to have him learn to shoot a revolver by continuing with light loads of 44 Spl. He's a good shot and he should grow into the gun in a fairly quick order. 250-260 grain WFN at 1,100 should work as a carry load when he is ready, and grandpa agrees. When the revolver gets back he will be shooting more of Matt's bullets 215 WCs with 6.0 of Unique to practice and grow proficient with.

Tom, you might should take a look at some of the 640 series 44 bullets via MP molds. They are Cramer style molds that offer a Solid and often 3 different hollow point sizes and unlike a WFN don't care what speed you shoot them at much less where you crimp them they just flat shoot. Here is a link to one we did specifically for the 44 Special and MP Molds probably will have this mold available. If not, let me know. singleactions.proboards.com/thread/18213/terminator-group-buy-closed-prices

Thanks Fermin, I will keep the molds in mind. Right now working on developing the scratch for Karl, should be no problem and the money for a Barranti rig. Course wait time for Barranti that leather could be part of my grandson's inheritance. Hopefully just a bit of tongue in cheek. Putting it all together. Then to start on the other grand sons outfit. All I will need is to give him my personal Pre 29 5.5" and the Lawrence knock off half flap it came in. They are both right handed, and I unfortunately operate from the port side. The Miha mold makes sense, for both of them to share and to use. Have an RCBS 20 lb furnace and a Lyman sizer/luber.
Haven't introduced either one of them to reloading yet, let alone casting.

Well Tom, I suggest you get on that reloading and sizing! That lead ain't going to cast itself!!
And how bout you stick around for say another 150 years or so. You could probably get 2 maybe 3 Barranti holsters by then!

Fermin, could be on those Barranti rigs. Hope he is training a son or two to carry on. My grandson may need more than one and have more than one firearm. Been reloading lots of 44 Specials I'm thinking about having a Northwest Comapnion rig made for the Mtn Gun. It will be on his hip as a flyline "spool" or basket will be on his chest.
Got the estimate from Karl and check going out Wednesday.
