When I was putting mine together some years back I REALLY wanted a longer barrel, but at the time 20" and longer barrels were a LOT more money than the 16" ones, like a couple hundred bucks more. I also knew that in reality I'd probably never shoot it very far. It's worked out well, as all my hunting now days in thick woods stuff, so the shorter barrel works well. I love single shot rifles. I love hunting with old rifles. I like traditional old hunting rifles. Even hunting with muzzle loaders and flintlocks during the regular gun season. So I'm almost embarrassed by how much I've grown to enjoy hunting with an AR. I feel such shame. I use 5 and 10 rounds Grendel specific mags. Are your 10rd mags straight like that? If so, who makes them and where do you find them please.

The 5 and 10 round magazines I have are exactly the same, the only difference is the spring. When the 5 rounders first came I thought "Damn these things are heavy, what's up with that?" when I pulled one apart I saw the reason. lol If my memory is correct, they are C-Product mags. I've yet to shoot anything with it, but then I've yet to see anything to shoot in several years. I bring it as my bad weather gun. That rifle pic was taken on the last day, last week. All the nice guns had been oiled and put away the night before.

I purchased one from Alexander Arms. It is a 24" bull barreled upper. Extremely accurate, but heavy. The mags I bought were from them as well and they function nicely. They must be Grendel specific magazines.

All the nice guns had been oiled and put away the night before. I have a couple of those and had feeding issues from the start. As i ain't sceered of working on something i fixed it a couple of wrong ways first. Ended up being the wad of spring at the bottom. We aren't restricted with round counts here and I don't hunt with the Grendel anyway. C Products and AA magazines are my favorites as need all the length I can get. I've needed to notch all of them for the extra OAL. I've been playing with the Grendel just about since AA started making them. Started with an AA Overwatch and ended up with something else. Basically ended up with an AR Benchrest rifle. 24" Satern cutrifled barrel and all the rest of high priced stuff. I will state that for best accuracy and case life, there is only one brass and it has either AA it Lapua on the case head as they are/were the same. That hard case head and tiny flash hole is a big part of the miracle. 500 new pieces hurt the checkbook but it is what it is in getting what you pay for. Due to the Grendel patent and hoopla some years back, my Satern barrel had a funky leade/throat. Some people hated it, but i loved it as I could experiment with seating depth more. In short, I could jam and load from the mag. Being a Benchrest shooter primarily I know how important seating depth can be for accuracy. Keep in mind, for me accuracy is my interest regardless of what I shoot, but I do make sure my loads work in the type of gun I use them in. An AR makes you pay attention to all details in handloading. I'm more into high BC bullets and have and use 107/120/123 SMK's, 108/123 Scenars, and 120BT Bergers. Use CCI 450's and FGMM primers, XBR8208, 2520, and LeverRevolution powders, anneal religiously, and measure everything. FWIW, 8208 and the lighter bullets give great velocity and accuracy. I tend to use the LeverRevolution with the heavier bullets for best velocity and accuracy. I've only shot it to 600, but have spent a lot of time with it there. I don't know what kind of accuracy you guys find acceptable, but my efforts and expense were good enough for a blanking gas gun. My shooting partner worded it better than I could like this: "a gas gun is like a high priced whore, no matter how much you spend on them, they'll always break your heart". Sorry for the rambling Grendel post.

My son and granddaughter used a 6.5 Grendel this year for deer. It has a 16 inch barrel and with 123 gr Hornady A Maxes made a mess of the heart and lungs on both deer. 3/4 to 1 in groups are normal with some smaller. I built with all Anderson parts including barrel and it shoots about the same as my sons.Standard A.R. mags will work if you only load 5 or 6 rounds.Grendel specific mags work with a full load.
