I found a Sporting Rifle for sale and the owner says if the lever is closed while the hammer is at full cock, it will fall and the rifle will fire.
I know there's a particular manual of arms to be followed or you can break the firing pin but it's been 10 years since I had an 1874/1875 model (a Pedersoli Quigley .45-120) and I don't remember if the hammer fall can happen if things are done out of sequence or if this rifle truly has a trigger or sear issue.

give shiloh a quick call - the fix may/may not be cheap?

I thought about calling but got sidetracked with the short week chaos at work last week and forgot about the whole thing. It was a C. Sharps (MT) and someone may or may not have gotten a deal at $950+shipping depending on the trigger issue. The seller said it had a light trigger and I was hoping there was an adjustment screw but I didn’t see anything on their site or the Shiloh site about adjustable single triggers.

Adjustable SST should be an 1885 thing. I can't remember exactly but I believe C Sharps uses DST on all their 1874's while you can get a single trigger factory set on certain Shiloh's.
When I've had my SST adjusted too light on my C Sharps 1885, the hammer will follow the lever/block being closed. Apples and oranges I know, but that's all I can do to help.
Depending on the model and for the price you mentioned, I'd get it. I could be the fly is broken (not too likely) or the sear. More than likely someone adjusted the set trigger too light though.
You bring an 1874 to half cock before dropping the block or the firing pin nose can break. Maybe won't happen every time, but it'll eventually break when you don't need it to the most.

Hammer should only fall if the trigger is pulled, period. There is no other sequence that would allow this to happen unless something is wrong. It sounds like a trip to a good smith or C Sharps is in order but I doubt the bill will be much, should he an easy fix. There is a screw for trigger adjustment between the two triggers. One of these for under a K is a really good deal unless it was toast, but this doesn't sound like a major repair.

Hammer should only fall if the trigger is pulled, period. There is no other sequence that would allow this to happen unless something is wrong. That was my thought as well. The only reason I wasn't 100% on something being wrong was because with the chamber empty, I can pull the trigger on my Martini Cadet and it will close the breech block. I know it's an apples to oranges situation but it did have me wondering. One of these for under a K is a really good deal unless it was toast, but this doesn't sound like a major repair. Agreed. I was ready to jump on it but work got in the way of fun. In my Zen philosophy of collecting/accumulating, that just means there's something better just over the horizon.
