ever since I did the research on my retired tool & die buddies civil war Spencer, & assisted in the sale of a rifle that by serial number was actually used in several historic battles, I've had a mild interest in them ( really, it's our 1st military repeater ) Taylor's has had a reproduction 56-50 Spencer in production for several years now, it's available in both Carbine & Rifle formats, it can be had in 45 Colt, & 44-40, & in the new 56-50 centerfire... which Starline has 56-50 Spencer centerfire brass in stock... I promised myself one of the Henry 327's... but am starting to doubt it's top position on the list... I can't imagine these Spencers will be around & available as long as the 327 Henry... & I'm really getting the itch... part of the itch is fueled by the fact that my machinist buddy that bought the historic Spencer got 5-6 reproduction actions, along with the purchase of that original, that my retired tool & die buddy had been building over the years... machinist buddy could really use to look at some of the action parts for the conversion to centerfire, which is about all my retired tool & die buddy had left, to finish up these reproduction actions... of coarse as much of a goof ball as I am, the 56-50 centerfire has me really intrigued to try with Trailboss, & I could probably swing one of the completed actions, from my buddy, for letting him go over my new rifles parts... which of coarse... I'd have to do in 45 Colt... which could be loaded hotter, because of the smaller head diameter... anyone handled one of these reproduction Spencers??? your thoughts??? www.gunbroker.com/item/717241032www.gunbroker.com/item/715222100

A Spencer is a "lottery gun" for me. If I win I'm buying several carbines and rifles, original and repro. I always think of Unforgiven when I see one of the carbines.

I've been using one of the Chiappa made repros in 45 Colt in SASS and GAF matches for about 5 or 6 years now. It has been way fun, especially as I got smoother (and therefore faster) running it. It is of course much slower to run than a M-73 or other "regular" lever gun, but you can't come close for style points! I'm sure that you already know that 56-50 brass will be expensive and not necessarily easily available and bullets will be strictly a cast your own proposition. They have gotten pretty pricey (about $1500 I think)and you don't see too many in the after market.

I think I'm dooming myself to eventually buy one... my 1st 50 cases should show up today sagebrush, I'm glad to see yours is running well. Everytime I think I want to get one, the reviews and problem threads run me off. Even the one Hickok45 picked up and later reviewed had to go back to the distributor for service. .45 Colt would be cheaper to feed...
