We originally bought this for Linda as a range gun. It was dead stock, with a 4" barrel and square butt. Before I could get it fully modified she fell in love with a different gun. Since this gun is 'surplus to need' I feel free to experiment on it. I was going to do a full 'Fitz' on it but I couldn't bring myself to cut the trigger guard. Instead I narrowed it at the front. You can get on the trigger a touch faster but it's still safe and strong. I bobbed the hammer and reduced the grip and frame to the minimum useful size for my hand. It points naturally for me and is easy to hang onto. Probably I'll make a new grip- I don't like the screw being at the bottom. I also cut grooves in the top of the hammer- you can start it with the trigger and then thumb-cock it. Not sure why you would, but hey, you can. I slicked up the trigger too, but didn't lighten it. It's on the heavy side for most people, but glass-smooth. I slabbed the sides of the barrel because I wanted to remove the partial bits of writing left at the muzzle and I like the way it looks. I may yet shorten the barrel further, but if I do I'll need to mount a detente on the crane. Anyway it's all just for fun, so who knows? I may come up with something really nuts...

I love the stuff you do. Well done, again. That would make a dandy little carry gun.

I would upgrade the grips and leave it as is. Looks like a great gun for the tackle box or glovebox. Most importantly how does it shoot? Does it prefer 158 grain loads?

It shoots quite well- all I have put through it so far are wadcutters, which are very manageable. This is not a gun that will handle +P well. Other than fixing the grips the most likely mod is a fiber-optic front sight.

I have a model 88. It's a SS version of the 68. I bought it in a Pawn Shop at a good price. They had 2 S&W model 60's. It was tighter than either one of them and was way less than half the price. I use Hornady Critical Defense 110 grain-not plus-P for carry and 130 grain FMJ white box Win. for plinking that I still have 12 boxes left from 3 cases that i got at a good price on back in the late 80's. I only own 2 double action revolvers, the other is a stainless model 67 S&W 38 special. I really like my model 88, even if a lot of people laugh at me. Ron
