i've been wanting a bob now since i was in my early 20's. i've about convinced myself that it wasn't going to happen. it still might. i have a MGM 16 1/4" barrel that is a 6.5 creedmoor. i've got to say, it does it job. it has killed many deer. also the 6.5cm is a drt machine. i'd take a 120gr nosler bt with a charge of superformance and i'd put the crosshairs on the shoulder/behind the shoulder and then it was bang, dead deer. the 6.5cm is accurate too. .3 - .4" at 100 yards(5 shots/benched) were the rule. a .2" at 100 yards (5 shots/benched) while uncommon, the 6.5cm shines. i've never felt the need to higher in bullet grains or powder. but, theres always a but, it is not for me. it sits in the safe and i should sell it. 20 vartarg has the same barrel length as the 6.5cm now i do want the 257 bob more than anything. the only reason i don't, i would like it to be a bolt action. but i can change. if i would go to single shot it would be either a ruger #1 or a tc encore barrel. MGM could build a 25 - 27" heavy factory barrel in the bob. a 115-120gr bullet(don't know which kind) going around 2600-2800fps would be a great one for deer. 100gr and under could be for varmints(its a 1 in 10" twist). what would you do? if you had a disability check and you have $100 to go with bob.

I'm not sure I grasped the whole story with the distractions here at work... if you want a bolt action in 6.5 CW, can you do a reasonable custom??? I converted one of my Remington 700's to 6.8 SPC... also did one in 17 Fireball... the SPC was much easier to do... BTW... are you talking about the 257 Bobcat???

I would assume 257 Roberts, often times is mentioned as a 257Bob, the less formal and more friendly version of Robert. Personally, I would prefer the 257 over the 6.5. I've always been one to go towards the calibers that aren't as popular any more just because. I would have to go with a bolt, i'm quite partial to M77's, but they're few and far between with the tang safeties, and if you do find one in a 257 with a tang they're expensive; they also come in long or short action bolt configurations, never got the full story as to why they did that.

MGM can do it for $350-370. i should get $300-325 for my 6.5 creedmoor. the dies and brass i haven't figured out what they are worth.

the Robert makes more sense since it would be more similar in power than the 257 Bobcat... didn't even cross my mind, & the 1st to come up on a search for 257 bob was the Bobcat

I like the 257 Roberts , but before you start selling your 6.5 CM stuff better try and find some 257 Roberts brass, it’s not in stock anywhere at the moment but you can find some factory ammo. Ronnie

My vote is .257 Roberts as well, but that is because I've owned one for a few years and know both its history and capabilities. If I were starting fresh, the often poor availability of brass and ammo might dissuade me from the Bob.
Might.....

I’ve never done it but I understand you can form 257 Roberts brass from 7x57 or 6mm Remington. Ronnie

I'd put a 6.5x55 in a modern bolt action, sell all the others, get rid of the safe, and live happily ever after!

Well if you’ve got the brass covered it’d be the 257 Roberts all day long, unless you wanted a 25 Souper or a 25 Creedmoor or maybe a 25 Savage . Ronnie

I have been shooting a Ruger 77 Ultralite with the skinny 20" barrel for a while now. It is the newer Hawkeye version with a long action. It's not a ground squirrel rifle but will put two into an inch with several loads. Several feral hogs 150#s and under and numerous Arkansas whitetail have been well anchored with Nosler 100gr Partitions and Ballistic Tips. Also use Hornady 115gr PSPs to good effect.
Brass can be hard to find but it's there if you look enough, and while many stores won't/don't carry ammo it can be easily ordered online.
Two 11 year old granddaughters used it to great effect last year on whitetail and are currently competing for dibs for this year.
I say .257 Rooster

If there is a chance you’ll ever want to sell this, the Creedmoor will be about a million times easier to move.
