I've been making some changes on my Bisley 480 so I can have it ready for next weeks elk hunt. I'll be hunting cows because that's usually an easy tag to get compared to the bull tags. I had already installed one of my taller front sights on it last year but had hardly shot it until today. This morning I put the new Turkish Walnut stocks on it that I just finished after Tank went home & I also put a new Bowen Rough Country rear sight on it that I got from friend & forum buddy Jeff down in Arizona, thanks Jeff, finally put it on today!
I had 5 different loads I wanted to try along with the load I'd been shooting in my Harton gun & my Ruger Super Redhawk that I took my bull moose with several years ago. That load was 21 grs of 4227 & a 370 gr soft nose cast. Today I had some HS6 loaded & seated deep, some 4227 loaded with the 387 gr HP Miha bullet that has done so well for so many people, this load was seated out to the second crimp groove & I also had the same bullet seated out & loaded with 21 grs of H110.
It took me a while as you can see to get the new rear sight tracked into the center as these Rough Country sights don't have click adjustments, you just dial. They work great but this was my first rodeo with this other Bowen sight. I can see with one more range session that it's going to work out just fine, I just need to tweak it a tick to the right & then move out to 50 yds & then to 100 yds.
This was my second target, you can see some of the holes from the first target through the paper, this was with un coated bullets, all the shots on this target were powder coated. The last 3 shots in the center were 13.5 grs of HS6, deep seated & a primer change to CCI LP. I was real happy with these last 3 shots, probably better than I normally shoot. These were all 26 yds off my Bog Pod rest.
