We’ve all heard that before. Sometimes when the trials of life seem to have grabbed us by the balls (if you’re a woman I guess you’ll have to pick a different body part) and the sting of reality swarms like a flock of killer bees, well, it’s hard to remember that it really is the little things in our lives that can bring some joy and comfort. Many of you know my recent cajone (I think that’s Spanish for balls, not positive though) grabbing tribulations but as I sit here in my truck waiting on daylight to do my morning rounds at work, reflection of the previous 24 hours in my life has given me a renewed appreciation for the little things. Like the smile on my grandsons face when I took 5 minutes to make him a slingshot to shoot folded up paper at imaginary T-Rex’s or the smell of Hoppes #9, the feel and beauty of a well crafted leather belt and holster as they make ready your handgun of choice for the defense of self and loved ones, the taking of game or the violent end of some vermin’s existence. In the past 24 hours I had conversations with two men that I respect, admire and consider hero’s. Neither are exclusively my friends nor am I special because of these cherished exchanges of thoughts but I am very humbled at the idea that both took time out of their very busy lives to make me a small part their day. For the brief amount of time I conversed with these men the recent trials of life were put to the side and I was blessed to be a part of theirs. Yep, it truly is the little things that make life worth living. I hope you all find your little things today and that the Good Lord opens your hearts and eyes long enough to enjoy them. Ok, enough preaching and mush. Carry on and have a great day. Paul

A great mindset to start every day! A reminder that we only go thru life alone if we choose to. Thank you!

Miss Penny & I,,, like everybody else have our share of trials & tribulations. Daily things that either make us smile or stress out. We choose to try hard to not let the stresses rule us,,, but focus on the things we are happy about. We do truly know we are blessed. And, as noted,,, the little things are what makes a stable foundation.
As a friend once put it; "You can lay all the bricks you want,, but the mortar makes it smooth & level, all while bonding things."

It was tough this past week but my wife took me to a movie... a date with my sweetie! She even sprang for some popcorn! Plus, this shortie 480 SBH makes me smile! Who knows, maybe I'll go on a woods walk and see a lil' blacktail... Great post, Paul!

Just like rowing a canoe on a lake chopped with wind-whipped white caps, and working out.... no such thing as coasting. You're either moving forward or falling behind. I've been losing too much ground lately!

Not to mention you have some of the coolest hats on the planet!!

Great post. To use Doug's example, it is far too easy in our everyday lives to focus on the fact that you don't have a motor than it is to appreciate that you DO have a boat. I'm guilty of that too.

I'm thankful for all my blessings everyday... MRS is one of those glass half empty, worry wart kind of people & I'm constantly reminding her that we have a wonderful life... & it doesn't pay to worry about things you have no control of... I'm hopping I have the constitution to sit in my poo with a smile on my face, when I'm too old & lost my mind, rather than being a cranky old fart, throwing his poo at the nurses, cursing at them for not changing my diaper... thoughts being I'll get my diaper changed earlier if I'm a sweet old man, rather that someone the nurses would rather not go near, for fear of flying poo

About 4 years ago the husband, one of the nicest and kindest men I’ve ever met, got an infection in his brain. He had almost stroke like symptoms. Of course much of the time before his recent death was spent in nursing homes. He turned into that nasty old man you mention. The saddest part was that he had no control over it. The infection has destroyed parts of the brain where empathy, sympathy and self control lives. Sometimes God has a different plan than ours.

Man, you complimented me 5 different ways in that one, short post. Wow. Thanks. Wives. Mine is gold, platinum. I told my Dad that just before he passed away and he said, "then don't go and screw it up then!" Sandra is so patient with me and allows me so much leeway. I don't like to sell guns, but I've been consolidating calibers and such for the inevitable move we'll make in a few years.... or whenever, may be sooner. That's why I took the family pic of my SA revolvers, to remind me of all I do have. Amidst this, Sandra says she's taking me out on a date. We took pics and she hates this 2nd one but I love it because it shows her playful nature and how she's been threatening to shave off my chin whiskers in my sleep. Ha! I was laughing so hard I could hardly hold still enough to take the pictures. .

The most important things in life aren't things.
Doug: You're a lucky man.
