I am always on the lookout for this or that when it comes to sixguns. On the very top of my list however is NEW TALENT. It so happens that some time back I was looking for a part and managed to strike a deal with a young man named Ryan Ross. Curiosity led me to search his posts a bit and I discovered he was working on sixguns. So I slowly began to feel him out a bit to see what he was like. I am pretty happy with what I have seen so far. Just to visit with him on the phone, you can almost hear the level of patience he has in his voice. We text pictures back and forth and his work looks pretty good to me however I have yet to have any of it in my hands. I do know he apprenticed under Gallagher and has his own website www.ryanrossrestorations.com/ that is nicely done with plenty of photographs and a very complete and reasonable price list. He does his own color case hardening and more importantly has that skill that I think divides the smiths from ordinary to extraordinary which the ability to do fine tig welding. So, we will see what the future brings. Our own Rob Barnes beat me to the punch and is already sending him a project! Ryan tells me his favorite sixgun to work on is the Old Model Rugers. I wonder how long it will be before his back log starts to get serious....

Rob Barnes tells me he is sending a job out to Ryan here pretty soon. I am in the process of detail polishing up Hoovers Hammer to have Ryan do his best blue job on. I have most of the work done, I just lack the small parts. We will see what we see here soon. Anybody else looking to see what he has up his sleeve?

I am on the look out for a three screw .44 Flat top that looks like it’s been to hell and back but with little to no mechanical issues and a good bore to send your way for Fermin’s Fabulous Finish and on to Ryan for the cherry on top. With all the financial degradation and drama around my place lately I’ll have to be patient and thrifty to find an example that is worthy of such a journey. So if you run across a fitting example I’d appreciate a heads up. Meanwhile I’ll spend the freezing winter here in Florida building a 50 yard range in preparation.
