I'm a little late to this discussion, and I have a LOT less experience than many above who have posted. But, I do own one FA in 454, and I've also been to FA, seen how they build things, and even spent some time with Bob Baker. I have, as yet, never seen any need to tinker with a FA due to accuracy concerns. All of the above advice is spot on in all my studies. And by your actual shooting, along with experimentation of loads,,, you realize the gun is accurate. All you have to do is feed it properly & do your part behind the trigger. Agreed. Over thought it based on standard Ruger's (Not that that's a bad thing) throats. What I need to do is step on it and see what's waiting on the other side..... I haven't decided on the 2X or 4X yet. Open to suggestions.

2X IS ALL THAT IS NEEDED ON A SIXGUN; 4X FOR T/C CONTENDER/ENCORE.

A 2X is all you'll need for general use -- or a red dot for that matter. But, for me, I use a 4X Leupold for serious load development. You'll notice a big advantage with the additional magnification at the longer ranges. FWIW, I have 2X and 4X Leupolds on FA revolvers in addition to Trijicon RMR's. Just my $0.02 worth.

Yes, shoot it first to see what you have. If it's all aces, then I'd leave it alone. FA is known for tight specs all around. This is why you buy a Freedom Arms..TIGHT TOLERANCES

I have the same gun. All the throats on my gun are .429 - I've never slugged the barrel and I've never had a need to. It shoots better than I can by far. A local Texas gunsmith was working on another firearm I owned. I took a couple other guns to shoot, one of them being my FA 44mag 83 premier. He has a ransome machine rest. My FA shot a ragged hole at 50 yards with Leadheads .430 bullets.
If you have a concern, call FA directly. I've talked to them a few times in the past years. Bob Baker answers the phone at times.
I wouldn't dream of touching my gun or letting a gunsmith mess with it.

Groo here I have 2 454's,,,,, with a high pressure load you "may" want a smaller chamber to ease the bullet into the forcing cone . The higher pressure will swell the bullet base , causing it to "fit" the barrel. Remember , the FA revolver is a HUNTING gun and intended to run at full pressure. I am supprised they run "light"loads so well.
