I believe it is not MORE penetration that is the better aspects but the MORE reliability and less chance of failure due to either too hard or soft cast or very hard bones.
Yes cast bullets have blown thru big animals or provided all the penetration needed, however they have also failed to provide it more than monolithics. The biggest advantage of monos is consistency, regardless of speed.

These Bovine Bash write up's have always been interesting & helpful. I've said before that I have no experience with animals that big, nothing beyond elk & moose & I always have used cast but on those really big animals I think hands down the mono bullets are superior. I think one of the major mistakes a person can make with a cast bullet on really big animals if he's going to shoot through big bones is shooting his bullets too fast, too hard & using a bullet with too wide of a meplat. To me, all those things work against a cast bullet. With the monolithic bullets there would be no such restrictions.
