Adirondack Jack had a really novel idea there. Yes Jack got Star-Line to make the first run and I'm sure he had to buy the first 50,000 round run,and pay for the headstamp too. Star-Line has made it all along.........

This brass seems to function just fine in a S&W 1917

I found it odd that the brass will fit in my NM Blackhawk Flattop ACP cylinder but not in my OM Blackhawk ACP cylinder, rim hits on the ratchet.

I happened to have 500 rounds of new .45 Cowboy Special brass left over from another "project" when I took delivery of my SS Ruger Bisley .45 Colt/.45 ACP large frame convertible. I had to ream both cylinders to .4525" with a "made for the purpose" Manson reamer kit complete with pilots as they were undersize.
However, after the reaming job, the revolver shoots like a Camp Perry match revolver with both cylinders. On demand, less than 1" groups at 25 yards.
As I was contemplating various possible loads and bullets for maximum utility value with this excellent combination, a "light bulb" suddenly came on. The ,45 ACP cylinder headspaces on the mouth of the case (just like it was designed to do in the 1911 auto pistol). If I desired to use heavier bullets that required a crimp in the ACP cases I was out of luck. However.... YES! the .45 Cowboy Specials headspace perfectly in my ACP cylinder for the use of heavier bullets allowing a good roll crimp where necessary. The Lyman 452424 250 gr. Keith bullet works perfectly.
Now, you could sensibly argue that the 454424 works perfectly in the .45 Colt cylinder where it was originally designed, so why bother? Well, why not (:>))... Further, there are light cowboy bullets that can also be roll crimped for other light bullets.
No real need, but it just gives me more options.
As a matter of information, the .45 Cowboy Special has the same strength and capacity as .45 ACP and Auto Rim cases, so in the strong Ruger platform, you can load all three cases up to a safe max as .45 ACP Plus P (23,000 psi), if needed.
