I'm currently working on a project in original .44 Colt using a .452/.430 Heel-based bullet. I've only found one source (http://gadcustomcartridges.com/#heelbase) where I can buy ready-to-load bullets. The aren't tragically expensive at ten cents each but it's not exactly cheap either. Casting my own is a can of worms I really don't want to open. Does anyone else know of a source for these?

You might try contacting Mike Venturino thru Handloader magazine. Other idea, contacting the folks at http://www.blackpowderspg.com . Luck.

Why don't you make a tool to swage them such as the old guillotine type? This should give you the opportunity to choose from different bullets.

Buffaloarms.com carries them & has everything you need for loading heeled bullets, oldwestbulletmoulds.com offers excellent crimp dies for seating heeled bullets as well.

No Sir I can not, I'd recommend calling them with your needs as navigating their new & "improved" website can bee a harrowing experience. I know I ordered both heel based & hollow based 44 Colt bullets from their catalog 2-3 years back for my John Gren 1860 conversion, I believe they were from Bitteroot components if meomory serves me correctly...I have since purchased my own molds for 41, 44 & 38 Colt which is the way to go IMO.
