I've been getting bored with striker-fired pistols lately and decided that I needed a change of pace. So I picked up this Beretta 92A1: I put a Wilson Combat guide rod and a Beretta "D" hammer spring in it and have been enjoying the fun that only comes with shooting a full-size, all-metal, 9mm pistol. Anybody else shooting the Beretta 92? Or has the whole world gone striker-fired?

oregon45.... resembles prototype I took to Central Lake, Michigan, during the Joint Services Procurement caper for a 9mm pistol to replace John Browning’s battle gun. Of the two prototypes in the U.S., one was at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, the other in my hot mitts, headed for a bowling pin jamboree. The distinction between the pistol Beretta loaned me and the pistol which Uncle Sugar would adopt: mine was a beautifully polished blue with checkered walnut grips. Otherwise, it had the ambidextrous safety and firing pin block specified. All sorts of cops and other unidentifiable persons at that Second Chance match traded ammo for a chance to shoot the Beretta. Raided police armories thus enabled me to stuff various automatic weapons.
The Beretta was proven in single stack form long before the world latched onto P-35 feeding. Walther’s Pistole 1938 gave birth to the Beretta 51 and, later, M-92. The P-38 proved reliable under the adversity of WW II----completely aside from the Nazi craze for assassinating civilians with a shot to the head or nape of the neck.
The Beretta 92 is bulky for a 9mm Luger, rather fat. I find it a transitional design. Nevertheless, the Beretta 92 has survived ugly environments. Were one forced on me, I would prefer for its smoothness the Double Action Only variant. David Bradshaw

That's a great looking Wilson 92, do you recall what the turnaround time was like?

It was something like 12-14 weeks if I remember correctly.

Good trigger, good sights, easy to shoot well. It is my go to gun for teaching a new shooter that doesn't see the wisdom in starting with a 22..

My brother in law picked one up right after it was chosen to be the M9. His was a 92F/92FS IIRC. I always thought it was the smoothest shooting 9mm I'd ever fired and very easy to empty a mag fast and on target.

I had a m92 years ago. also had a cougar in 45 acp.
both had such incredibly long trigger pull I finally sold them both. I could not enjoy their triggers regardless of how neat the guns were...I really liked the way that cougar fit in my hand!

The 92F and later, the 96D were my duty guns for nearly 20 years. They are excellent pistols.
