It's official, not only has Ruger produced a mid-frame .44Spl Blackhawk but as of 2010, it's a standard catalog item. To quote Clark Griswold, "...if I woke up in the morning with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more shocked".

Ahh ... will it remain a Flattop, I presume?

We already see alloy grip frames going on them to cut weight... Now we will be welding up the top strap to keep the rear sight protected and stable when the sight is at extreme elevations...

I need one with an alloy grip frame with the rest of the gun in Stainless Steel. Have they added 7 1/2 and 10 inch barrels yet?

4 5/8" or 6 1/2" according to the catalog. Guess the 5 1/2" didn't make the cut. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Right now I'm pondering my "free gun" from Ruger and don't have a 2010 catalog - only the 2009 is online. Any bisley's with 5.5" barrels in there?

I will probably order a 6-1/2" model after I get the .41 Magnum Flat Top that I have my gunsmith searching for. The way things are going here of late, I will soon need a separate safe just to house the Ruger SA revolvers. Pleasant problem...

Have not seen the 2010 catalog personally.
But someone who has a copy told me that the 44 Special Ruger is not a Flattop but a conventional New Model Blackhawk.

AWWWWWWWWW man!!!! I think I already have one of those, they're called a 44 magnum, or am I mistaken? Could be they signed a deal w/Lipsey's that they wouldn't make them in the same guise as the one's they made for them. I remember a 45 Colt/ACP stainlesss Blackhawk that this was done on and they have kept to the contract to this day, that was 20+ years ago. Guess I won't be needing one of the NEW ones. THATS disappointing to say the least.

But someone who has a copy told me that the 44 Special Ruger is not a Flattop but a conventional New Model Blackhawk I can't image it would be a full-size New Model. The other rumor floating around is that it'll be the OM 357 frame with humps. All that being said, I really think it'll be a continuation of the Lipseys. -Lee www.singleactions.com

I just checked. The current 4 5/8" Lipsey weighs 42 oz. The new 4 5/8" 44 Special cataloged by Ruger is listed at 42 oz. Likely the same gun. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Notice that the Cat number is NVB-445, which would indicate a 5.5" barrel. I think someone just copied the details from the 41 mag listing by mistake. Still a question on whether it will an alloy GF. We'll have to see one in the flesh to be sure. Pete

As much as I like the 44 Special it still appears that the 4 5/8" Blackhawk in 45 colt is the PPP...
