Think about it(LOL). How many people live in, travel to, Alaska vs Florida? Aren't sharks, gators, giant snakes and crack heads a threat too ? If a marketable niche was seen for a big bore snubby to protect from things seldom seen, why would it not be feasible for a 357 Max SRH snubby to sell ? Yeah, I'm in tongue in cheek mode, but the logic, and another go around for the 357 Maximum cartridge ? Seeing adds for Shark Week on TV brought this about. Watching Jurrassic Park got me to buy my BSBH 480, so.. why not ?

I'm in for another Ruger 357 Maximum. Such a great caliber to be so misunderstood by the masses. I prey for a marketing genius to get enamoured. If someone knew how to sell it, I think they could make a bundle.

I think they could make enough. I don't know how many Alaskans were sold, and the % that went to areas where big bears and moose are a threat. I have spent some time on boats, in surf, wading flats, all at terrible risk ! Again, LOL. If Sheriff and shop keeper versions of .32's are marketable, and folks gobbled up .460's..just sayin'.

Stainless bisley, 3.75",5.5" and 10" barrels, the 5.5" & 10" setup for optics would make great guns for protection from them sharks, meth heads, gators and pythons.... (10" would just be kool like a modern buntline special.)

Nope, got big bore Bisleys, had a Maximum S.A. Starting with a clean slate, or in my case, a blank mind ! Want to see a stretch framed SRH snubby for the 357 Max, long enough for heavy mono=metal bullets.

I think it would actually sell! I'd have to buy one anyway.

S&W has been selling strech frame DA guns same with DW for years, I love my 7445.

Snubby? David Bradshaw made a comment on one of his posts about the 357 Maximum coming into its own with rifle length barrels. The Rugers came mostly with 10"? barrels. The DW's are mostly longer barrels. T/C's start with long barrels. I don't know that I've seen a short barrel Max.
I normally see and do 357Max reloads with 110/296 or 4227. All of those are slow powders. I have read that slow powders need more time in the barrel to develop better velocity over the length of the barrel.
It might be interesting to use a fast powder and a light bullet to get velocity in 357Max, with a short barrel snubby. I think the flame would be magnificient. My snubby 357 magnums I have today would terrify me with more powder volume. My S&W 360 already kicks like an angry mule.
Still, if Ruger made it, I would buy it. What a great excuse to start a new load development to match it.

No worries of flame if shot under water. He he he ! I am foreseeing an amphibious type usage for this gun. For waders, boaters, divers, swimmers, and folks that play in swamps. If Ruger gets a SEAL Team to endorse it, the price will be a 100 bucks more.

oddshooter,,, it was lighter bullets combined with fast powders that caused some topstrap flame cutting in the Rugers. It caused Bill Ruger to stop production, and even scrap about 5000 357 Maxi's. (Even though the flame cutting would stop after a certain point.) Folks complained,,, and Bill got pizzed as I recall.
I'm sure David or Coogs can clarify or confirm any of this.

To unscrew the barrel from a Dan Wesson M40 .357 Maximum and touch off a round should approximate the impression of a concussion grenade, with a ball of yellow fire to ignite any polyester clothes handy by Might even clean the wax out everyone’s ears, especially inside a car or concrete hallway. The Dan Wesson provides the opportunity to demonstrate the effect.
As for expecting great velocity with medium-burn powder from a snub nose Maximum, a word of caution: Medium rate handgun powders can get out of hand quick in a large volume revolver case. Doesn’t take but ONE MISSTEP to to wreck a fine revolver when the bandleader refuses to understand propellant characteristics.
Once again, analogy to the world of explosives may be in order * Low velocity explosive heaves rock. Substitute powder with too fast a Velocity of Detonation, and the area inside a mass may burn or shatter----without heaving. * Explosive loaded too close to the top of a bore hole, or loaded with improper or insufficient stemming (read bullet) “rifles” straight up into the atmosphere without doing any work.
Practically speaking, a snubnose .357 Magnum remains a benchmark of palm-size power. The best way to launch weight from a snub nose starts with a larger bore, 44, .45, etc. David Bradshaw

Guess I need a way to make the LOL's larger. I agree whole heartedly with your last bit Mr Bradshaw, why I have a 44spec Bulldog on my belt right now. I'm considering an Alaskan 480 or the newer 4 5/8" BSBH as my next handgun purchase. There is already a 6.5" one here. Enjoy folks, and stay safe

I'm partial to the 44 Special 3" myself ( though I'm wearing a 32 Mag snubbie today )... but I'd love a 50 Special with a 2" barrel
