Thanks JT. In a Bisley Blackhawk I shot those kinds of loads and it was plenty! In the old model Vaq I prefer less buck and roar,8-9 grs of Unique is where I like to be. In a New Vaq I would be shooting Colt type loads, but I guess I am just not as adventurous as some are. THESE DAYS MY STD LOAD IS 8.0 GR. UNIQUE WITH THE KEITH BULLET

Am wondering if John Linebaugh's personal 45 NM Vaq has been tweeked to a 5 shooter and/or oversized cylinder ? Ive a 44spec NM Vaq Sheriff here. I do not feel the need to turn it into a magnum. A personal choice.

Why doesn't anyone call him and ask him about his Colt SAA and what he uses in it. I am sure some of you are great friends with him I'm sure.

I've always wondered why guys will go on and on and belittle a guy for using a load that most think is too hot. once you've expressed your opinion why continue and why all the name calling. If he is not shooting your gun why do you care so much. Is it just the need to be right? I just don't get it why you want to argue after expressing your opinion and why do 20 guys feel the need to jump in saying nothing new. It's his gun his money and his right to do with it as he sees. I just don't understand all the arguing. Someone please explain I must be missing something

Talk about overreaction! Where is "all the name calling"? Obviously those who think these loads are too hot outnumber those who think its OK.

How is asking a question a over reaction I've seen so many posts like this one where it goes on and on saying nothing new. And nolongcolt that's the perfect example of what I'm asking about when you say"obviously those that think these loads are too hot outnumber those that think it's ok". The man has made his decision on the research he is done. So are you just trying to say you are right or is there some other reason that all those that agree think it's too hot have to keep telling him. Just like you saying I'm over reacting. really I just asked a question I'm curious why so many people want to say his load is to hot. I'm not mad happy disgruntled or anything just curious. I'm sorry my question made you feel like you needed to attack me instead of answer my question. However your response did say a lot and I appreciate so I hope you are happy and have a great time with your loads and your guns. I have my flame suit on and my pop corn so it will be entertaining to see where this goes. Mr. Taffin had a great post facts and info. So if I ever get a new vaquero I'll have some facts to work with

Think guys like John Linebaugh and John Taffin have calluses from years of shooting to the point that checkering may be redundant anyway !

You want to blow this all out of proportion and make something bigger than it was, everyone else had their say then you came along and tried to blow it up. I didn't attack you, but you seem to want to attack everyone else, so get stuffed. Done with you.

Although John Taffin has shot a lot of very heavy loads he mostly recommends heavy bullets with moderate loads. If you read his works he also doesn't advocate stressing a gun, instead he suggests moving up to a bigger gun, pretty sure we all agree on this.

I liked his load of 8gr of unique. But having a full size Blackhawk I'm pretty sure one of my warmer loads would end up in the wrong gun. Now that I have a super Redhawk 480 and a bfr in 475 I've backed way off on my 45 loads. I believe the guy that can only afford one gun tends to push the limits of what he has and that could end up bad

From this article: " Considering the steels Ruger is currently using and with the above cylinder measurements, indications are that the gun is absolutely safe with loads that generate 22,000 to 24,000 psi." Then from this article on the bullet in question: " Loads in the 20,000 psi range will prove useful for U.S. Fire Arms revolvers that are 100 percent American made (after the year 2000), Colt New Service,Ruger New Vaquero and Smith & Wesson post-World War II N Frames, including Models 25 and 625 Mountain Guns." References from past articles in Handloader Magazine indicate 18.0 grs. of 2400 to be a 20,000 - 23,000 psi loads. The New Vaquero I once owned was subject to many similar loads and I never had a problem with it. Cholla
