I found a blue Abilene in 44 Mag. Looks in decent shape. They are asking 600 for it. Is that too much?

Magman,
You really shouldn't ask me. I am a junkie. If it says United Sporting Arms, I am in. I love my Abilenes. One is my Reference Gun for all others to shoot against when testing my handloads.
Prices are tough. These guns have been unknown except to a few. That seems to have changed over the last couple of years. I usually find them in excellent condition, and years past I have paid from $300 and $600 for a 44 mag. And I have paid all the way to $1100 for an unfired, mint 45 Colt with box and paperwork. Several of us wanted that one bad.
No pictures and your description of decent shape makes it difficult. I would pay $600 all day long for a deep blue 44 mag in beautiful condition. You might be paying $50 to a $100 dollars over for "decent" shape. I see about one USA a month for sale searching the whole net. Not a lot out there, and so it depends on how badly you want it.

Well the pictures look pretty good. So I guess it has a new home. Have it on layaway now, will pick up this weekend. It's at the local Cabelas and I have a bunch of gift cards from various holidays, etc, gonna use and get a free gun.

If your Abilene is anything like mine, I'm sure you will enjoy it. I have the long barrel.
The fit and finish was the first thing I noticed. All seems were flawless as was the grip fit. The hammer has the most gorgeous shape. My trigger was just above 2 lbs. and broke like a glass rod.
Accuracy was outstanding.
Tell us about yours and share a pic please.

Finally picked it up today. Beautiful deep blue. Trigger feels a little heavy. Still not bad for what ended up being a $200 gun.

That is one great SAA. It is a lot better than decent condition. Beautiful. Thanks for the pic !
I gotta ask. Have you ever seen a more perfect hammer? That shape and hatching really fits my eye. Bluing, fit and finish, accuracy; how many new ones can say that. The best bonus yet is the history of the US Arms. Lee has done an outstanding job right here on this site laying out the serpentine journey. I'm kind of a fan of Sig Himmelman and his son, John. That was a tough business to try and survive in.
I'm surprised at your description of the trigger as a little heavy. I have a few and they all have very light factory triggers, close to 2 lbs .
Prescut I think that says No Haven, CT on the side. I don't have one of those, but it looks to be stellar.

That is one sweet shooter. No lunatic dragoon style trigger guard and a superb hammer to boot. Nice catch.

Within last six months found these revolvers. Can not believe the quality for the price. Have found 5 Abilenes one Seville and one El Dorado. Each and every has been a pleasant surprise. Perhaps I have just been lucky. In my humble opinion if more collectors found out about them they would be much more pricey. Have been a revolver lover for many years. At 70 still enjoy a fine single action. Lost deep in heart of Texas

hey randolphl47,
Welcome to the forum. Always nice to see Texicans. I grew up in Albany and then Odessa. Don't hold that against me, I'm a nice guy anyway.
Magman has gotten us excited as we watched his process for acquisition on that Abilene. His pic really pushed us off the fence and into the bliss so many of us search for.
I'm with you on the US Arms sixguns. You and I, and dozens on this site, have discovered the lost map to SAA treasure. You have a terrific collection for 6 months. Since this is a gunny site, please tell us the story behind each of those treasures and the hunt. The reason we come here is to read notes from other peoples's journey.
And if you really want to get started right, win friends, and influence the angels; POST PICS (it's not that hard).
