So as the title says I'm interested in the Ruger Toklat. I was about to get one a month ago and stumbled onto a FA 83 in 454. I really like that gun as well but am still interested in the Toklat. I want to mount one with a rmr. Haven't been able to handle one though but I wanted to know if anyone has used one and/or had good/bad results.
Thanks

I have a Toklat that I bought about a year and half ago. Being a complete novice I've had some frustrating times learning and still have a long ways to go.
That said, last weekend I put together a couple of one-hole groups at 25 and 35 yards with both Matt's 260's and 305's. These are 45 Colt loads. I had no intention of going to 454 when I bought the gun. I wanted a strong, reliable revolver that I could load up in 45 or if I felt it was necessary go to the 454.
I mounted an UltraDot on the gun late last year and really like it. It will definitely let you know when your trigger squeeze is less than ideal as it jumps all over the target before the shot:)
For me the Toklat was a reasonable entry to the world of big-bore handguns in a platform that is made to absorb lots of heavy shooting.
I have no regrets about my purchase.

A guy on my route has one that he packs all the time. I handled it last week and it got me to thinking about chopping the barrel on my SRH480. I don't think I will. Not that I didn't like the Toklat. But, I'm thinking about the 4.2" Redhawk in 45 Colt instead. Still mostly in the thot stage tho. Glen.

If they made a SRH with a 4"-5" barrel, I would have purchased one. I just don't care for the slab sided, skinny a*& barrel on the Toklat. I will be sending by 7.5" SRH 480 in to have the barrel chopped to about, oh... 4.80"

I have a Toklat and they are very nice. Much handier than the 7-1/2" barrel version. The grips do a very good job of absorbing recoil. Of course, you do not have to shoot full power 454's all the time, it works fine with any 45 Colt load.

Have been giving chopping the barrel on my SRH480 . 7 1/2" back to 5 1/2" more thot . I think I'm going to have it done. I saw that Ruger sells screw on front sight bases. Am thinking of going that route rather than having the oem one soldered back on to the shorter barrel. Still thinking about the sight part. But pretty sure this barrel is getting shortened. The loss of a little velocity isn't a very big issue for me but having a handier double action 480 is.
