The wire strippers on a cheap pair of electrical crimping pliers works too.

I always use the hammer type, I think it's called Quenetics, spelling might be wrong but it's a very good bullet puller & doesn't damage the bullets. When you mentioned John Wayne using his teeth it made me think of an old article about Rocky Marciano, former undefeated heavyweight champion of the world. Sorry for the small hi-jack here. Anyway, it was either Rocky or a good friend of his that was an amazing arm wrestler & they would travel all over Boston & the New England states looking for arm wrestling matches (money) one big time challenger showed up at a bar & sit down & pulled out a couple of railroad spikes & proceeded to bend them into a circle with his thumbs! Marciano or his friend, I think it was his friend, beat the guy in arm wrestling & then threw a quarter or something on the bar & said "here" go buy yourself anther spike! Think it was in Sports Illustrated.

yep... I've worn out a couple old collet impact pullers, pulling down some of FIL's old hand loads, & other old ammo & hand loads I've collected from family & friends over the years... they are cheap, the collets don't wear out plastic parts do... but I've pounded out a lot of bullets that way... Chuck Norris just mean mugs them, & they fall right out

The hammer-type inertia bullet pullers are heaven-sent for revolver rounds with bullets a collet cannot grip. A regular shell holder works great in the RCBS hammer puller.
Dick.... watched film of a Marciano fight a while back, always spectacular. Yet, cannot imagine a human bending a railroad spike with his hands, let alone thumbs. Watched the Ali-Foreman fight the other night, also spectacular. Hell, it would be easier to bend a railroad spike than to face one of those greats in the ring. David Bradshaw

David, I'm sure someone else has seen that article. I'm also sure it was Marciano's sparring partner that bent the railroad spikes, somebody will speak up. I'm certain someone can find that back issue in Sports Illustrated, it's beyond my computer skills. I remember when I was a little kid & we didn't have a TV, we would lay on the floor & listen to Gillette's "Cavalcade of Sports on the radio. The announcer would always give me goose bumps when he would say with a very loud voice, ladies & gentlemen, the heavyweight champion of the world "Rocky Marciano...Marciano! & he would let the second Marciano echo for several seconds. I would be so wound up by the time he said it the second time I was ready to fight both of my older brothers who were laying right beside me! I guarantee you, its a true story!

I have on of the Grip n Pull pullers and it stays in one of my cabinets. I found it left some deep gouges in the bullets being pulled and since I changed to a Co-Ax, I couldn't use it anyway. I also have some of the puller that use collets somewhere in that same cabinet. The only puller I use is the hammer type. The Quinetics and RCBS can use a shellholder too if you choose (these are the only brands I have).
I like to think I wouldn't need a puller, but I keep one close as mistakes happen.....
