Picked up this gem off Lay-a-way. My only complaint was the typical swirl marks on the stainless finish.
No matter, a bit of time with a trusty nail buffer and brushed finish is nice and even.
Had some nice grain, extended grips that made the gun fit my hand perfectly. Those short factory grips are out.
The completed gun on my food scale is 29.9 oz. Maybe a perfect power/weight ration for a Trail Gun.
Many don't like the fiber optic front sight, but its fine to me. This is not a long range hunting weapon.
I'll order some of the Matts 160 gr RFN bullets, hardened, and never look back.

Gun shot 2" and less at 25 yards. Gun probably more accurate, but hard to hold this little thing steady.
I'll practice and load ammo just for this gun. Bet it gets better, but happy with what it does now.

It's on my short list but never seems to make it to the top.

I sell a lot of those for that exact purpose. Nice size to weight ratio....

Nice size, I handled one a while back and figured it would make a nice trail gun.

There are several SP101's amongst the camp members that cover various roles short of hunting. They are well liked. Nephew got one last year and likes it. Think theirs are 3" ones though, as CCW one of the roles they are to play. I've said before, if I had not fallen into the Bulldog here, likely an SP101 would be in my vest pocket now.

I'd only ever tried one because I like the 327 Federal so well. When they introduced the 4.2" A.S., I had to try it.
I was so impressed with it, 18 months or so later, I decided to add the 357 Magnum version.
I'm primarily a Single Action guy, but occasionally find a D.A. to join the stable.

Should make a Dandy Trail Gun.

I've had the SP101 4" for several years. My DA lawyer-designed trigger pull was over 15 lbs. and gritty. Ruger customer support was quite nasty with a: Pound sand, that's within specs. After dozens of hours, I finally got it to my standard DA 8lbs and SA of 3lbs. I've read lots of reports of light strikes from others who have tried to tune the action. It seems the difference between acceptable and worthless is very small.
A new gun should not require this skill level or amount of work to get it acceptable. The SP101 trigger issue has been documented extensively online. Even the highly touted Ruger support won't touch it. They said they weren't a custom shop. 15 lbs was fine. Is there a single person here who can use a 15 lb trigger pull?

I've had the 327 Federal version for a couple years and very satisfied with it. So far, the same is true with the 357 Magnum. Here's what Jeff Quinn had to say about it... gunblast.com/Ruger-SP101-357.htm

The way I see it, if I need accuracy I will use the SA function. If I need to pull and shoot or spray and pray, then the target is either moving quickly or right on top of me and 15 pounds will mean little in that white knuckle scenario. I respect your opinion and your ability to shoot DA.
