Took my .500 JRH BFR to the range today and was shooting from a rest at 25 yards. I was shooting about 5 to 6 inches high with my rear sight all the way down. Any suggestions in what to do? I have a feeling when I try to get out to 50 yards or greater the problem will get worse.

***** You ain’t lying. Probably a foot high @ 50 yards. Do your math and calculate on your sight radius how much taller your front sight should be. If BFR makes different heights from the same blank, you may be able to get taller stock and profile it yourself. David Bradshaw

A taller front sight seems to be in order. Or, if it is the newer style BFR rear sight, the body is pretty thick top to bottom. Perhaps a Ruger sight (what BFR used to use) swapped in would be able to be set lower. Stock sight from a SBH Hunter on the left, a Bowen new model tall sight in the middle, and the new BFR sight on the right.

I know they make at least 3 different height front sights. I believe the heights are listed in the manual with the BFR.

Mine was the same way. I know this is "kitchen table" work but a piece of .030 thick refrigerator magnet
trimmed to fit under front sight and a longer screw put me point of aim at 45-50 yards. The magnet is black and
blends in with the sight.

Might try building the front sight up higher with JB Weld, then file it down to what you need.

I wonder if you could file down the top of your rear sight to make it work. Judging from Yetiman's picture above, the rear notch is plenty deep.

It is in fact very deep, and not all that expensive to replace if your not happy about it down the road.

We get them from restaurants, doctors, phone co., etc. You could try a vehicle sign company. Most of the car door signs used to be magnetic.
