Remember a guy bringing a new 9422 up to a camp in the ANF back in the late '70's. It was one of those guns you pass around, and everyone can shoot it well.

Paid $120.00 for mine when almost new. They are fun and mine has been accurate especially with Federal ammo. Hope your price is right.

I have the 9422 Classic model, long barrel and half magazine, pistol grip stock. Only made for 2 years in the mid 80's. Pretty uncommon.

I have a 9422 XTR in 22 LR that I bought new in the 1970's. It was my first brand new rifle. Very smooth and accurate, and a joy to shoot after a retired sheriff's armorer did a trigger job on it... It is my favorite lever gun and favorite 22 rimfire, and would be the last gun that I would ever get rid of. I have quite a number of Winchester 22's made in the 40's and 50's, and the workmanship on my 9422 is right up there with those rifles. My only complaint would be that the inner magazine tube isn't very well restrained when there is no ammo in the mag. tube, but a rubber "O" ring at the end adds a bit more tension to restrain it. I also have a 9422 in 22 WMR that is a dandy, but doesn't have the same place in my heart as the first one in 22 LR.....

Are you suggesting you send it down the road? I get tempted sometimes. But a 25-20 will take its place with me sooner than the 22 mag.

I got mine years ago for $150.00 I think and then always watched for a .22 LR for a mate. Not realizing the true value till I started looking for a second one, a nice clean XTR .22 will run me 5 times that. I keep optimisticaly looking for a deal someday.

I've got a pair, .22Mag and .22LR. Lots of folks don't realize that they are the most well made levergun to bear the Winchester name in a long time. No stampings or castings, all milled steel.

When a guy where I used to work hit the ten year mark my boss charged me with finding him a gun. I found a 9422 magnum XTR used like new for 400. My boss (USED to be) said he wouldn't stoop to giving him a used gun, it's in my safe. I've got no problem drilling it for a Leupold.

Darn you guys. So, now I'm looking at 9422's on Gunbroker (I'm the gun brokee).
The XTR models look good with their checkering. Surprisingly, I think most lever actions look better without checkering. I believe the checkering was done using machines-not by hand?
I'd go for a non-magnum version.
Any advice on choosing one? What's a "fair" price these days?

The Classic was not checkered... but when found are often quite pricey. Keeping mine!
