Snagged this little guy for a screaming deal. Early Hawkeye Alaskan with the ion bond diamondback finish. Any one else playing with a short barreled 375? Seems it would be quite the compact thumper. I won't get to shoot it for a while but interested how y'alls performs.

I think it'd be a real thumper with cast bullets for hunting!

As it's supposed to equate a 24" 375h&h out of the shorter 20" barrel it should thump quite well. Had a winchester 70 classic stainless H&H I let get away that was the most impressive on game. Kind of excited on this one.

I'd be curious if it really does deliver within 100fps of a full size 375HH. I just compared trajectory with different bullets all within 100 fps of reasonable HH velocities and it delivers a 308 equivalent trajectory. Which is my benchmark for a good hunting rifle.

300 Grain cast at moderate velocity will take just about anything on this earth!

Absolutely loved 300gr softs on hogs up close out of my H&H. Not a squeal, not a kick, just bang and flop. The one that's got my attention is what guys are getting it to do with the 235 and 250 grain tax bullets. 270 win trajectories with an extra 100gr of bullet weight when it gets there. 286yd point blank range from a medium bore is nothing to sneeze at.

Got to try her out. 300gr interlock rnsp. Shooting at an empty milk jug at 50yds it hit an 8" fir tree 10yds behind it. Entrance Exit Not real scientific but impressive none the less. Recoil is a bit sharper than my full size h&h was not unreasonable at all. Gonna like this one.

The later plain stainless guns seem to be in the $700-$900 range when you see them. This one was quite considerably less, pretty sure the seller didn't know what he had. Brother Berk woke up to a critter in the hen house a couple nights ago and went to see about it with a 20g shotgun and some low brass #8's. Ended up being a rather large black bear (6.5" front paw tracks) making an exit through the wall. The Alaskan is the new going to the hen house at 2am gun lol.

I'm picking the Alaskan in a Hogue stock up for $650. I tried talking my dad into 35 Whelen, but he wouldn't have it. So he's picking me up a 35 Whelen to swap for the 375. Days he wants to be able to shoot elk at 400 and stop a charging grizzly with the same rifle. Guess the 375 should fit the bill...

With factory ammo or handloads . The 3 different 20" barreled 375 Ruger Alaskan rifles I've had. All gave 2520 fps with the 300 gr bullets and 2700 fps with the 270 gr bullets. Hence my desire for a Guide Gun in 375 Ruger. With the 250 gr TTSX or Hornady mono I think I'll be around 2800 fps. Which is pretty ideal for Alaskan hunting.

The Ruger, 375 Ruger Alaskan is a fantastic rifle. The Ionbond version are even better. I can get easy moa with mine using factory ammunition. I've only used it on a limited number of hunts, but it has had great impact downrange. Sadly Ruger discontinued the Ionbond version, possibly due to costs. But the new guide gun is a nice alternate.
