While we custom revolver junkies have been playing show and tell with our exotic Single Six based guns, it occurred to me that not everybody does customs.
I love the great value of a nice factory option.
I bought the Lipseys 4.2" A.S. SP-102 327 Federal when it came out. Have really enjoyed the gun.
So, when my LGS got in the same model in 357 Mag, they called me. Actually, they got several in.
One was particularly well made. The shop manager is very aware of my O.C.D. nature, so he called me. The gun was perfect, so it went on layaway yesterday.
With my aftermarket grips, that actually fit my hand, the gun weighed 29.4 oz.
It occurred to me that this is the perfect option for the shooter wanting a ready to go "Trail Gun "
Not saying this will quench the Custom fever, just a great factory offering

It's refreshing to hear a good post about an "as built" factory gun. Don't get me wrong,,,as the customs are beautiful, and are built to what each person wants,,, and will often perform in a better fashion than a factory item. But,,, an as built factory item can & often does fit the bill for many folks. And,,, if you really look at it,,, Ruger has been offering many guns that have the features many want, especially when they do the Distributor Specials. I have many that haven't been modified in any way,,, or at the most,, an action cleaning & a different set of grips to fit my hands. Other than that,,, they are excellent factory offerings!

I haven't pulled the trigger on eon but have been thinking the same thing about those .357s for a loooong time.
It's about as much punch as you can get into one of those guns (don't go there.....).
They're really just about right.
But...those darned front sights....
Did anybody ever find a drop in replacement?

Bushog- spot on, love everything about the 4.2 SP except that dang front sight. While it may perform perfectly well, it just offends my eye. If a nice gold bead were readily available then I'd own one.

I thought Stan went on a hunt for one??? I think he went on a replacement hunt for his new GP100. It seems virtually impossible to find a standard front Sight for these guns or the pinned front sights. Everything I find is either fiber or some variation of night sight. You could do what this guy did, I guess. I'd have to use JB Weld though. Link: www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=634601

+1 on that fiber optic sight. It may work great for quick acquisition, but
The only way it worked for me was to cover the target. and that really sucks when you can't see the target.
encore64 also got lucky being able to select a perfect model from several. I wish we all had that option. I love to see outstanding out of the box factory quality. It gives me hope.

One really stood out from the rest. I'm really fortunate to have a LGS that does me so well.

Both the .327 and .357 are on my "want list" so good reviews are nice to see.

You can take the plastic rod out of the front sight and replace with brass drill rod or brass nail.

A good gunsmith can do really great work, and give us pistols the factories don't make. And that is a lot of fun. But yeah, good solid factory pieces have done well for many folks for a long time. Two of my best shooting handguns were stock, other than the stocks.

So...are the rear sights on the SP101s and the blackhawks the same or am I thinking about the GP100s?

The SP has a smaller blade.
But, I took my grips and installed on the SP this morning. Fully ready to go, the gun weighed 29.9 oz.
Not a bad trail gun.

Wow ! The bolt head/slot on the screw holding those last rubber grips on is huge ! I like that, you could probably use a coin. Bet my nephew that has a SP101 would like those too.
