Hope I'm not the only one who thinks this is a great idea. Told my gun shop to get me one asap.
Seems a neat big bore hammer for heavy timber hunting.

I'm going to build a couple .450s on Remington 700s, but may need to buy the new Gunsite Scout .450 beforehand.

This is really interesting... how does the 450 Bushmaster rate compared to the other 45 caliber similar cartridges... like 45 Colt / 454 Casull, 460 S&W, 45-70, 450 Marlin... assuming it's a lower pressure round, since it's based out of the AR platform???
will have to look up the cartridge specs...

a little digging looks like it's got significantly more muzzle energy than the handgun rounds I listed ( even the 460 S&W ), but significantly less that the 45-70 & 450 Marlin It also does use handgun diameter bullets... wonder how those are handling the extra energy??? I'm also not a huge fan of rebated rims... especially in the rifle rounds ... but I gotta admit... if I thought a while I could probably come up with a chambering that would interest me more... but this one may just force me to add another cartridge to the loading list

I looked at the weight, price and energy of this combination. Its simply remarkable.
The Ruger American comes ready to slap a scope on and shoot.
First class trigger, scope mount, muzzle brake and the works.
Its hard to see a downside...

I'm not fond of the spacer block style stocks, but I understand their marketing... I like the rifle enough though, that one of several patterns of Boyds custom stocks, that fit the rifle made it perfect for "me"... this is my .308 scout with a few personal touches these AI magazines are 2/3 the size of the Ruger factory .308 mags, & hold just as many cartridges... I wonder if they'll do a 5 or 6 round 450 mag???

This cartridge is based off the 284 Win. case....... which feeds fine in bolt or auto actions. Another cartridge to look at is the 45 Raptor...... a 308 based case which outclasses it and is equal to the 45-70/450 Marlin. A 240 gr. bullet at 2,600 fps carries a lot of energy. I shoot a 300 gr. cast at about 2,200 fps in mine and could go higher.

A .450 AR build has been on my radar for a while and I've been looking off and on for the parts to build a bolt action .450 on a Savage so it looks like the American can take the place of a Savage build.

I was really hoping that Ruger would do the Scout in a 458 SOCOM with a 16.5 threaded barrel. They may eventually. Even a 450 Marlin would have been step up from the 450 Bushmaster. Both the other cartridges have resilient available load data and brass availability.

I would like to see 50 Beowulf, 475 Linebaugh, 50 special. I'm odd like that, but I can't shoot them anyway anymore, maybe, either way it still SUCKS! For now I think I'll neck my 350 rem mag down to 32, put it in a model 7 and call it a 32 Tyranasoure something

The other natural for the Ruger Scout would be the 338 Federal same case head as the 308 but substantially more potent. But really 458 SOCOM would be my odds on favorite.

The Ruger #1 is now chambered in this round as well. Stainless with a laminated stock.

I'd be much more interested if the rifle were in .338 Federal, but will likely still buy one in .450. Reading the below article, it looks like the .450 Bushmaster has some real advantages over the .458 SOCOM. I think it would be a benefit that I can pick between light or heavily constructed .452 handgun bullets for the Bushmaster, whereas all the common .458 bullets seem to be intended to perform at velocity and energy levels of the .458 Win Mag and faster, which the SOCOM can't ever achieve. www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2016/09/josh-wayner/bolt-action-450-bushmaster-hunting-gun/
