Paul That Lee pot is a good piece from what I hear. Don't forget to check out accurate molds. Tom is a good guy and quick to get you up and running...

Lee pot are prone to drip. I prefer Lyman or RCBS.

My Lee 4-20 pot does drip, but does a great job for what it cost.

The Lee pot will work just don't use it for smelting, that's what causes some of the drip problems. Also you can hang a little extra weight on the handle & many times that will help stop the dripping. I have a Lee, a Lyman, an RCBS Pro Melt & a Magma Caster that holds 30 lbs of alloy so I've got the bases covered.

I don't have a problem with my Lee 4-20 dripping. It's a great value especially for just getting started.

I lapped my Lee pot before I used it just in case. It has never had any problems with dripping. I put alittle bullet lapping compound on the valve rod and spun it for a few seconds with an electric drill.

1- Is the Lee Pro 4-20 a decent start for the money? I use a cast iron pot (mine holds 30 lbs.) and a Rowell bottom pour ladle ( the smallest one). Add a propane burner and lubrisizer with die and you're in business.2- I want to cast to about a 9 BHN so I've looked at Rotometal and Zip for a 25-1 lead/tin. Is one company better than the other? Zip is a few dollars cheaper. 50% dead soft / 50% wheel weights is a good alloy ( about 2% antimony, 1/4 % tin, the rest lead ) is an excellent mix.... air cool for 38 Special and water drop for 357 Magnum loads. This is the mold I want to use. www.mp-molds.com/e-shop/molds/hollow-points-molds/mp-360-640-light-pb-hollow-point-4-cavThat one is the lighter version of the 360640 at 125 gr. or so.... the original 360640 (marked on my blocks as: MP 360-640) weighs about 140 gr. as a hollow point. As a beginning caster, the two cavity is easier to learn on.

Tha Lee 4-20 is the best for the money, might drop but you can deal with it.
I put 25,000 bullets thru one and it still works fine.

Not much I can add. I started off with a loaned Lee 10pb pot. Used it a year and bought a 20lb Lee. I used it for a long time, yes it drips. I just put an aluminum pan under it to catch the drips. I and a buddy bought out a gent we shot with. It was an all or nothing deal. He was willing to work with us. Took several trips to buy as we could but we got about 98% of what he had, guns and all. I ended up with his RCBS pot. He was big on marvelux. I hate the stuff myself and it took me a long time to get the crap out of and off of it. The Lee should serve you well. There are a lot of articles out there on how to improve them. One thing I would say would make a lot of difference no matter what pot you get and that is a PID. I don't have one and I should. Every person I know that has one thinks it is the best thing since sliced bread.

Cast many years ago when I started handgun shooting in 1970. Cast all my own bullets with a Lyman pot until I went into the commercial loading business in 1981. Didn't start casting again till about 5 years ago and used a friend's Lee. It was ok but this year I sprung for the RCBS and am much happier... As to your mold...he makes great stuff. I have one just like it but in .41 caliber... www.mp-molds.com/e-shop/molds/hollow-points-molds/mp-413-640-pb-hp-4-cav

PaulG,
I started with the Lee 20 lb bottom pour pot. It works as well really as my RCBS pot I am now running. RCBS is currently hooked to a PID Electronic heat control which is very nice. I think you will be fine with it and price-wise it is light years ahead of the others. It is a very good first pot.
Have you acquired a pot yet?

Paul Action bullets and alloy inc. from Quinter, Ks. Is running a special on some of their alloys. 99/1 is $68 for 40lbs delivered. Lyman #2 is on sale also ($2.37/lb. I think?). These could be mixed along the lines of 2/1 or so to give you your desired alloy.
I'm not sure how these prices match up to rotometals etc. Email Address is: bullets at ruraltel dot net
Email for exact pricing. Good luck!
Regards Scott
