Hi fellas, I have a New Model Ruger Blackhawk, .45 Colt, 7.5" barrel, produced about 1979. It came with the Dragoon (Super Blackhawk style) grip frame, which the original owner swears was delivered from the factory in this configuration. I really like it, even preferring it to my 5.5" stainless Blackhawk Bisley. I am thinking it would look great with a brass Dragoon grip frame and a Tyler Gun Works Color Case receiver. I hope some one can direct me to a source for a New Model Brass grip frame- I see Ron Powers had them for the old model blackhawk, but is currently out of stock. I have ponded my keyboard all over the internet but to no avail. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. I am at best a very novice gunsmith, and that is stretching the truth! p.s. That might be a tough one to find. Someone here may have one in their parts bin. A wanted to buy over on the Ruger Forum is probably your best bet. Be prepared though, it won't be cheap. Have you considered have the original frame brass plated?

Never heard of a factory brass “old model" Super Blackhawk grip frame. The brass SBH grip frames were made for pre-New Model revolvers. I have handled an “old model” Blackhawk .41 Remington Magnum with factory brass grip frame. A family gun, thus no question of provenance.
I was told at the factory that customers Ki-Yied about flaws in the brass castings and that, fed up with the moaning, Ruger scrapped two barrels of brass SBH grip frames. David Bradshaw

There are some new model brass grip frames but they are not from Ruger. Look for a Qualite, SG and Caravelle I believe and there was at least one other aftermarket manufacturer that I have had a brass grip frame from. The RUGER frames ard marked MR3-BD in the webbing down by the heel of the gripframe.

Ruger factory brass grip frames are of the Super size. They were put on many different guns,,, all OM's,,, including the 45 Blackhawks. If you want yours verified,,, I have a pretty complete list, I can check the serial number. But the final word is to get a letter from Ruger.
As for the NM brass,,,, never done by Ruger. Aftermarket as mentioned above. Heck,,, I may have one in my stash of parts.

Got off on an OM MR3D brass grip frame tangent one time.. Had quite a few. Cary C made grips for me. Even had a few brass NM frames. Finally came out of the fog but it was fun while it lasted. Hang out on the Ruger Forum. Let them know what you are looking for.

Nice pair OMs with super grips and hammers that look like hammers when cocked. NMs look comparable till they open their mouths.
