prepped 300 R-P 223 cases I bought once fired, from a range that only allows factory ammo... that once prepped & loaded, & boxed up, will go on top of my factory ammo cache... I've noticed before, that some ( didn't notice any on this batch ) had swelled bases ( machine gun fired... or??? ) anyway, ran them all through a small base sizing die, just to be sure, then a file trim die, & got them all within .002" in length, after they were deburred & camferred... to start with, they were deprimed using a universal decapping tool, wet tumbled before sizing, wet tumbled a 2nd time after trimming and case mouth work, to remove the lube & any filings... pretty, shiny, little pieces of gold ready for loading now... wish there was an easier way to do the prep... but I'm OCD enough, I like to insure they are perfect, before I start loading them 2nd time around, after being fired in my chamber... they take much less work... these will be fired through my Remington 700 heavy barrel....

Think OCD is a good thing for a reloader. Blisters no, though.

It pays off with bottleneck cases. I'm pretty OCD with .223 and 5.56, not so much with pistol calibers...

I think a lot of guys get "looser" shooting out of the semi autos, & that is a lot of time to spend on cases, when you're blasting them by 100... ( I'm the same way with my CASS ammo, because of the volume I shoot )... but think it's worth the time on bolt action rifles, that spend the bulk of their time recreation ally on my bench on nice summer days...
that is actually a quote from a Beetles song... at the end of Helter Skelter... one of the guys yells out... "I've got blisters on my fingers"
the RCBS case prep center where I deburr & camfer can give me blisters from holding & pressing down the cases, when doing several 100... I've actually just got a hot spot... & if I would have worn my leather gloves... I'd have been fine... but was thinking these cases were big enough, that I wouldn't need gloves...
prepping 2000 25 ACP for my custom Blackhawk, gave me several blisters ( they had a wide range of lengths, 3 different flashhole sizes etc. plus being so tiny, they were really hard on my fingers )

no... all newer R-P manufacture... my CAS ammo is the only thing I mix brass on ( because I don't often get my same cases back )... otherwise everything else is sorted

The problem with neglecting COL with 223/5.56 for me was trying to get a consistent crimp on my Dillon 550B... even though I was shooting from a Colt HBAR many rounds at a time. Sometimes, though, it was a DCM match from 200 - 600 yards with Hornady or Sierra 68?/69 grain bthp's.

At one time, for bolt guns, I uniformed primer pockets, deburred flash holes and even occasionally turned case necks. Sometimes I really can't resist cleaning the primer pockets...

I like my primer pockets clean as well... but the wet tumbling with stainless pins gets the cases looking brand new each time, without any pain to my hands
