Yes, WLP works fine in cut-down Magnum brass. I've done it. According to Jack, you really should use Large Pistol Magnum primers and never, NEVER, use rifle primers in .500 JRH loading.

Thankyou that helps me out a lot. I'm about to start loading up some rounds for when my 5.5 bfr arrives And wanted to make sure they would work. I appreciate your help

Quick Draw McGraw is correct. Stay away from the rifle primers. have you or anyone else here loaded the cast performance .500 diameter 440 grain wide flat nose has check bullet for the .500jrh? Before I order some I wanted to make sure their nose to crimp length wasn't to long I haven't been able to find that specification

I have some loaded with Longshot for reduced loads- hope to try them soon. I would recommend looking at Matts Bullets (will include a link) I hear they are good bullets for the price- I'm considering the 380 grain myself. www.mattsbullets.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=66&zenid=2shn3uvobrqshktto37o0sr763

No trouble with overall length at all.

I purchased JRH brass from Jack several years ago and called him when I noticed the primer pocket was cut deeper than "ordinary" for a large pistol primer. I told Jack I uniformed the cases to large rifle primer depth and was using BR-2 primers as well as WLP and Federal 155M. Jack never mentioned to me not to ever use large rifle primers. Maybe he does now, but I wouldn't have a clue as to why one couldn't use large rifle primers in the 500 JRH case if one cuts the primer pocket to large rifle primer depth.
Accuracy was about the same and velocity was slightly higher using large rifle primers. Example would be 30 grains of H110 power behind a 440 grain cast was 1,368fps using the BR-2 primer and 1,322fps with WLP - using 30 grains of IMR4227 with the same weight cast bullet was 1,322 for the BR-2 and 1,304 for the WLP. The SD was much better for the WLP loads but accuracy at 25 yards seemed about the same when tested at that time. I'm only using large pistol primers now and use mainly Vihtavuori powders.

Jack's explanation to me was that the Large Rifle Primers would create unnecessary pressure increases that could be as high as an extra 10,000 PSI. From how I understood him, it seems like it's increasing risk with little benefit. I've been using WLPs until recently when he said I should use Large Pistol Magnum Primers. So that's what I'm trying next.

Back in December, I ordered a BFR 500JRH. I've been patiently waiting until I got to fondle one today. Now I'm anxious to get my own. has anyone got to see or handle or shoot the new bfrs with the new magnum research bfr grip frame with the black micarta or white micarta grips?

I have one on order that is supposed to arrive tomorrow. Will post up when I get it in hand. Turns out my order got messed up back at the end of January and Mri called me today turns out I'm gonna get one of the 5 Bisley gripped .500 Jrh s they currently have done this week but they told me they were all 7.5 inch barrel guns with white micarta so I told them I want mine refitted with the 5.5 inch and black micarta and they told me it should be ready next week but the other 4 are ready now with the longer barrel and white grips. oh well I'm thinking I'll like the Bisley grip better anyway I'm just glad I'll be getting the gun soon I've been waiting over 9 weeks for it
