Just picked up a S&W 629 Classic. Ordered it through Grabagun and when I got it noticed the rear sight blade's white outline is obviously canted. Might add that the finish is abhorrent. While I'd prefer Smith fix this, it is an opportunity to make a sight upgrade. I like Bowen's RCS but hear they are often back logged for months. Any suggestions? can you believe this finish?

WOW!? That's BranSpankinNew??? I don't mean to knock a fellas shootin iron but, I'm stunned by that finish if it's New! If used that's fine but from S&W like that, wow! Sorry if I came off wrong here! BigBore44

My first Smith - brand new from Grabagun. How it got through Smith and Grabagun is beyond me. I want Smith to make it right, but also want to replace the rear sight with something better. Reccomendations welcome...

I would be extremely unsatisfied if that what what I paid hard earned money for.
Perhaps contacting S&W customer service, to include sending pictures may be a good course of action.

Give Smith a call. Their customer service is phenomenal. He sent it to Smith... He told me, he's my sidekick. Called Smith on 1/30 and explained, sent me a prepaid Fed Ex label and I shipped it back that day. So far, they've done what they should have - no resistance to giving me a prepaid shipping label. In terms of customer service, it was far short of phenomenal - at best it was indifferent. Rep seemed really busy, talked over me and interrupted me the whole time. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting him to kiss my Baba Looey butt; it would have been nice to hear "we're sorry you received our firearm in unacceptable condition." In short, what I received and their "whatever" kind of attitude has not inspired my confidence. We'll see what they do. I haven't heard from them yet.

Sent gun 1/31 and received back 2/24 (door to door). Paperwork said they inspected firearm, replaced rear sight, refinished the entire gun and there was an additional sheet stating function was approved. It isn't much better - the turnline is less pronounced, and the barrel dual finish was polished exceptionally well. If you look at the pic of the left side of the revolver frame, you'll see the finish is much better - except for the portion directly above the trigger guard - where it looks like they just stopped polishing - like the quittin' bell rang and that was it. The finish on the right side of the receiver is better - but not good - still filled with swirls. The white outline is better, and appears acceptable It wiggles more loosely than the previous, and was installed far right. No biggie to adjust at the range. What do I think about it - I'm very pleased with the barrel refinishing - better than I expected. The turnline/receiver plate fit issue was also completed very well. The rear sight was fixed and appears acceptable, lil' loose but we'll see what she does at the range. The refinishing of the receiver sides was not completed 100% and IMO shouldn't have passed inspection. Did S&W come through? Mostly. So, am I gonna send it back again on the finish? No, she's not a trophy - but I have to admit I don't care for the incomplete job and I will bear it in mind when considering future purchases (which will be made in store where I can view the revolver first ) I still maintain this is a new gun, the refinishing put an exceptional clean on the cylinder and inside of the frame. The bore looks like it was cleaned also, and looks like new grooves to me.

Maybe a "Scotch-Bright" type of finish would be more pleasing.

JMO, but I still think you should look at getting the Bowen sight when you can. Glad you're pleased a bit with their service so far.
