Zane; It looks to me like you did GOOD! I have an original Model 24 (6.5" barrel), a pair of 624's (4" and 6.5" bought new), and a Cimarron 4 5/8" all in .44 Special (of course). Not that I like .44's or anything (:>)).
I have pretty much settled on the ol' Skeeter load of 7.5 grs. of Unique behind a 250 gr Keith. It is a great general purpose field load, shoots well under an inch in all of my platforms and has excellent terminal effect on paper at the range and on edible small game. It is a terrific "walk around" load, too.
Good luck with your trials!

Yeah, that's one of those deals you just need to jump on when it pops up. Great find, Zane!

Well Zane, Sounds like you did great. I love S&W's "N" frames. I can remember reading Skeeter's original Shooing Times article and wishing I had the money to build one.

was at a pawn/gun shop today looking around and saw a 28-2 with a partridge front sight and 6" barrel. tag said it was chambered in 44spl. I didn't have the them take it out of the case (I hate to bother them if i'm not going to buy it) so I don't know how good a job was done but it looked really nice. price was $675 I think.
how common is it to find 357 Smiths re-chambered to 44spl? Howdy Iscg, and to answer your question, likely not to uncommon at all, as I have one. I had Austin Behlert do a conversion on my first ... ah hem "big bore" revolver, a M 28-2. It was done ala Bill Jordan style, in the late seventies, with inspiration coming directly from his autographed book titled: "No Second Place Winner". Significantly, I had the heavy 4" model 29 .44 Mag. barrel installed. In my estimation the gun has better balance and pointability, than a 4" M-29, with said barrel set back to the shorter .357 length cylinder. However, it may not be quite as sweet as the 6.5" 1950 target .44 S&W Spl. my dad ordered from them in the early Fifties. By the way, that M-24 started my love affair with the .44 Special some 49 years ago, and I still remember "rolling" my own ammo for her at the tender age of 9; > thank you Dad! Enjoy that unique revolver Iscg! Derek
