my retired machinist buddy has a swedge set up, that he makes his own 50 - 55 grain 22 caliber bullets from 22 LR cases...
we have a shared buddy that has a 22 TCM, & my machinist buddy is trying to make some shorter 35-40 grain bullets, & it would be much easier ( he can use his existing equipment ) if he had some 22 short cases...
anyone out there have some sorted out ( or mixed in with 22 LR ) that they'd like to get rid of???

I don't think it would be very hard to make a mini shear to cut 22 LR down. Cut a few plugs to support the inside at the right length, and shear off the remainder.

I mentioned cutting them on the lathe... ( how I rough cut my 22 Hornets to 257 Special ) but he thinks he'd need some inside support & doesn't think the collet would hold the thin rimfire case??? & he'd end up making a bunch of tooling... anyway... he was hoping he could use 22 shorts as they are... I just don't know where he'd ever find a couple 100... I bought a couple hundred CCI shorts for my odd ball stuff like my butler deringer... but a couple 100 is likely a lifetime supply for me

BTW... sat for a couple minutes thinking about a mini shear ( thought of the sprue cutter on a bullet mold but a bit bigger & with a bit more leverage ) & that could likely be fabbed easily, & 5-10 filler plugs to keep the case from crushing, & you would think you could crank out several 100 pretty quickly only issue I see, is getting the plugs out easily on a solid bottom rim fire case... maybe those could be hollow & threaded, & a machine screw threaded in to remove the plug???

The easiest way to procure short cases would probably be buying some Aguila sniper subsonic from Grafs.

Will keep in mind for whenever I might find myself emptying some.

I have a punch and die that when it removes/irons out the rim the punch rod has a slight step that cuts the hull to length in same step. The step in the punch rod is same size as I.D. of die. Shears off hull as it enters die. Your guy can make one fairly easy.
