Does anyone here know of someone that makes custom stocks for the Ruger SP revolvers? Not the inserts for factory grips but an entire grip. I looked at Herrets and would be tickled pink with a set of their Detective model. Will contact them later today. I also looked at Eagle's rosewood grips and like those. Thought maybe one of y'all might know of someone or maybe Rob or Zane might tackle the little shooter? Thanks

The snag with SPs and Super RedHawks as many know is the spike style grip frame. I did a Dan Wesson with a spike style frame some time back (on my site) and have agreed with a guy to do his Bowen Super Redhawk. Have to see how that goes before deciding to do more. I'll be tackling it in a month or two. Time is the enemy effecting my willingness and the price.

Last I recall, Herretts doesn't make grips for the GP-100/SP-101, or if they do, they need the gun at a considerable upcharge.

I like the Houge Hardwood grips on mine. A long way from custom but they're nice.

There is a german company that makes some nice grips. I have a set on one of SRHs. Very well fitted. Nillgrips. No love for the old SP101 at Nill. I realize this information is probably only interesting to me but I figured I'd bore y'all with it. I spent a lot more time with a rasp, file and sandpaper on these damn awful Badger Grips. The ring finger on my right hand kept landing on the ridge between the finger grooves which kept me from getting the high grip I like. So it was back to getting rid of some more of this crappy crap grip. After I finished, these grips are much more user friendly but still retain that uncomfortable grip angle. Which I could live with since I eliminated the rest of the garbage. I didn't have any more gun stock finish so I used the only thing I had to finish these off. Carnauba wax. About 6 coats. I figured since these grips are going to backup stash and they're laminated, what could it hurt? Before: After: The Pachmayr Compac's I ordered came in today. They may not be custom grips but they are light years better than the Badger grips. They fit the gun well, they fit my hand well and now the gun has a more natural grip angle for me. So there ya go. Another part of my little journey with making this Ruger right for me. Next up is the XS Big Dot. I won't have that for a few weeks but I know already it will be a HUGE improvement over that tiny blade. Paul

Call up Zane from Lone Star Custom Grips. Fine wood, great craftsmanship and he's even a member here. I had a set for a Vaquero and they were top notch.

I threw out a challenge to Zane and Rob Rowen. I haven't heard from Zane but he may not have seen the post. Rob is working on a set for a custom Redhawk and said he's gonna kinda wait and see what happens with those before giving me a yay or nay. May be cost prohibitive.

Hogue grips are great unless you're like me and don't want finger grooves. I can't stand finger grooves. That's one of the reasons I spent a couple of hours with a rasp, file and sandpaper on them Badger grips. To get rid of them finger grooves. Plus they are a little too big for my taste on the little Ruger. The Pachmayr's I have on it now are perfection in my hand. At least in the rubber grip world. I will probably order some rosewood grips from Eagle Grips when I'm ready to spend the money. They will hold my need for nice wood grips in check until I wear Rob or Zane down enough to make some for me. I would really like a set made of either desert iron wood or mesquite.
