You guys may have seen me peddling a Browning Citori on the RF for a the last couple months. www.rugerforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=245932Last weekend, I took it for a walk at a local gun show. I had it priced at $800, with an absolute bottom of $750. I ended up swapping straight across for a 66-3. I don't know all the ins and out of S&W's and their pricing, but my google-fu said it was at least close. How did I do?

If you didn't need or want the Citori, and wanted a S&W revolver......you did fine

Yup, what they said. If ya have a need for one, and no longer the other, it's not a money thing anymore. Enjoy.

I think you did well too, those 66s without the hole aren't being made anymore & I think are special. Congratulations.

Aggie01..... how, you ask, did you do, trading straight across, a Browning Citori over/under for a Smith & Wesson Model 66 (66-3)?
The M-66 is a fast gun, a really fast gun. Points like lightning. Jumps into your hand smooth as cream. We speak of a proper Model 19 K-frame .357 Mag and its stainless brother M-66. This is the gun folk talk about when they crave FIRE from a .38 Special. Because the M-19/M-66 is a .38 Special pushing the envelope, pushing the envelope so hard that the .41 and .44 want to fit into its skin. Trouble is, its skin barely contains the unruly .357 Magnum. So you back off a little.
Truths contained above are reason enough for a student of marksmanship to tour the lessons of an exceedingly accurate, extremely fast middle-bore sixshooter. You just cannot contain a .41 or .44 Mag in this vessel. Its beauty is to be appreciated in the K-frame through the biggest holes it can manage.while holding on for a life of burning lead. Because you must burn lead to make this revolver yours. This gun is a cat. Burn it into your hand with pails of .38 Special. .38 Specials iced on special days through a stream of mid-magnums of the sort 12 grains of Hercules or Alliant 2400 imparts 160 grains of deep seated lead.
Pull off those square butt factory grips designed to crack a rib when you take a fall, these monuments to ease of manufacture and a static hold. Either save the original stocks for some future reminisce,, or sand the wood so it leaps into your hand. David Bradshaw

Now we need a range report!
Like Aggie01 says shoot it!!! You will find a good .38 Special 148gr wadcutter at just over 800fps will shoot well, take small game easily, be fun to shoot, & will show off that nice six-gun as a tack driver!

A 4" M66 is always a good choice for an all around 38/357. I'd find grips and a holster that work for me, a supply of ammo, snapcaps, and speed loaders. And enjoy a classic.
(My only real want for a shotgun these days is satisfied by an 870 for home defense.)
There are other good models & brands as well, but your 66-3 should be just about perfect.

I grew up shooting Dad's 66 he bought in the early 80's. I am probably more proficient with it than any of my hand guns. It is everything Mr. Bradshaw says. I can bring it up and ring steel most times at about any range to 50 yards. Rarely shoot magnums through it but man i love it for 38's!
Dad has 2-3 model 66s. But that ONE M-66 is THE one we shoot. His is a no dash with stainless front and rear sights.

Hey Aggie01!
you had that Citori priced well over there, I remember looking at it in the fall. You did great with that M-66. Arguably the most versatile revolver you could've bought for many decades! Enjoy it much

Had to return for another look. One thing on the factory grips if you don't already know, they can be worth some money. And if you don't have favorite shooting grips yet, that can be a fun journey.
The K frame 38/357 is classic.
