Am owner of a new S&W M69 with the barrel inside of a shroud. I'ts not a new thing for S&W and seems like someone else made some too ? So, my concern likely just me being fussy again. Has anyone had any corrosion issues in between the barrel and it's shroud ? How would ya know ? How would ya clean,etc.. None issue ?

I think S&W fuses / glues the liner to the shroud... but I'm not 100% sure... I do know I have several, & never had cause to remove the barrel

Why did they move to using the shroud? What's the advantage?

I do not know if they (S&W) glue the barrel to the shroud but it does take a special tool to remove the barrel. Having 6 Dan Wessons that have a similar setup but easily removable barrels, I have never had any issues with corrosion between the barrel and shroud. Just a couple months ago I swapped the barrel on my 41 mag DW that has been on for several years and several hunts in the rain and everything came apart no issues and the outside of the barrel was clean. I did have one of the DW ported barrels and shroud and after shooting it several months I had a terrible time getting it off the frame because of carbon, powder residue and copper shreds and lead from shooting cast bullets in it. Ever since then I have stayed away from the DW ported barrels. I replaced the barrel but the shroud does still have the ports in it that does let in some crud but not bad. Also I should mention that all of my DW's are stainless. One of the benefits of the barrel/shroud setup is that the barrel is tensioned on both ends and increases accuracy, (not sure how much that applys to Smith's since they do not use a nut on the muzzle end but I understand that the barrel is still tensioned via the shroud) I have to admit that I have never shot a DW that was not an accurate gun and my S&W 327 (4" 41 mag.) is also very accurate.

Yup... Dan Wesson ( old ) ported barrels, with ported shrouds where the ports don't line up, we not one of their better ideas... I have a Dan Wesson 44 mag custom snubbie barrel that started out as a 6" ported barrel, that I made the snubbie barrel out of the pieces after it was cut apart... the gun wore that snubbie barrel for many years, until I bought my 1st Ruger Alaskan, then a 6" unported barrel went onto the Dan Wesson
my air light & air weight S&W's have aluminum outside barrels, with steel liners...

Thanks guys. I'll just worry about shooting it now then.
