I did some shopping a couple weeks ago and these arrived last Friday morning. The #5 for the single six was on the "In-stock" page on Mike's site and I was able to order the modified Hank Sloan from the Direct Line portion of the new website. I'm really like the addition of the Direct Line side to the company. I know Mike made an announcement on it a while back as he was revamping his website but this is the first time I've had the opportunity to personally take advantage of this new line. The Hank Sloan I ordered differs from the original Barranti Hank Sloan in that it features the optional cut away trigger guard. This holster is very similar in appearance and function as one of Elmer's later M29 rigs. I took a picture of the welt/mainseam area to show the finish. As always, Mike burnishes the edges to a slick almost melted together finish then applies an edge coat which in my mind, gives it that professional/finished look. I know that on some of my custom rigs from Mike, I have requested just a simple waxed/burnished edge without the edge coat and he will do that for you if you ask but most of mine have this added feature along with the normal burnishing to finish the edges.
The #5 is a standard offering with the hammer thong versus the strap. Very sleek with the contours to make it aesthetically pleasing to my eyes and holds the sixgun perfectly snug. There are no straight lines on the Barranti #5, it all just seems to all flow together as you look at the sixgun nestled in. Look at the contour of the mainseam as it leads into the curvature of the trigger guard. Just awesome! Remember our conversation recently on "subtle touches"......
I also needed a fixed length handgun sling for one of my single shots. This is one that is being added to the Direct Line portion as well if he hasn't already. On my long barreled FAs and single shots, I use fixed 36" slings. Mike uses the excellent talon swivels, which I have come to prefer over all others over the last 5-6 years. These slings are very lightweight and do not get in the way but offer an excellent option to the handgun hunter without the bulky adjustable rifle slings that honestly are just too long and get in the way.
I highly recommend checking out this new area of Mike's website if you are in the market for new leather. The turnaround time on the Direct Line is really nice and the quality of the goods is top notch as usual! Mike, if you see this, If you don't mind, can you fill us in on the direct line side of the company? I noticed the offerings were more numerous than originally planned in your announcement when I was perusing the site. Thanks!
