Finally got around to taking the Virginian out of the safe last night to clean it. She was so dirty the pawl would barely move while turning the cylinder as when loading and the cylinder would almost spin freely. I disassembled it and sprayed every part down with non chlorinated brake parts cleaner, oiled, and re-assembled. Now every thing works as it should. These things are beasts!! She was a pawn shop rescue i got a year or two back and have never messed with her much. Cant say I've even fired her. Hope to change that soon as the weather clears up here. She has new grips in her future. These fit poorly. The locator pin on the grip frames are so small it is easy to miss them when reinstalling the panels. Then you tighten the screw up and damage the hole in the panels and they are forever loose. I think i'll cross drill a new hole for a new, larger pin and file the existing pin flat, as they are cast into the frames. Once that is done, i can make new locator pin holes on the panels and that should be that. Here are a few pics. Still my favorite part.

I'm not sure if it is or not Mr. Bob. The older fixed sight guns I have seen with CCH frame. Not sure Imve seen any of the newer ones with it though.

Joe,
You may already know this, but worth posting anyway:
There are two "prick" marks on the cylinder. These are intended to "straddle" the empty chamber when the gun is properly loaded with five rounds. Then index the cylinder so these marks straddle the top strap, thus insuring the empty chamber is under the hammer.
This was true on the early guns I examined or shot, and I assume the practice continued.
Incidentally, Interarms made the claim that "The first armory in Virginia since the Civil War."

There is a local one 4 3/4" 45colt older model with the snake and "Don't Tread on Me" on the bottom of the GF for $550. that's high IMO I've seen many for $350. Still Bob's correct in they are beasts of an SA.

Nice looking gun. Just saw a fully blued 44 Magnum at a gun show. It was NIB, but over $500 as well.

I love little oddities like that in guns. It's neat to see different ideas.
