I'm 51 and when I was before teens I think my Dad and stepmom gave me this knife. I'm actually surprised I still have it. It is a Craftsman that was made by Schrade and yep that's elephant hide. I'm gussing 1975 to 1978, back when Sears was the shiz. My first 22 is a Ted Willaims, pics for another day...

Amazing you were able to hang on to it when you were young. My first was one that I saved up green stamps to put in the green stamp book and I think it was 5 or 6 books an I was able to get my first "hunting" knife when about 9 or 10. Unfortunately I was better at acquiring the knife than I was in keeping track of where I laid it out on the woods.

No sir, been up here in the NW all my life but we used to get S&H greenstamps from many retail stores. Mom kept them in a drawer and when they started overflowing the drawer she let us kids lick them then put them in a green stamp book so we could redeem them at the store in Salem.

Schrade struck out on some of their designs, but this one is real country. Haven’t seen one like yours with brass butt; is it an add-on? Butchering lately, with featured participants a pair of Schrade 1250T Old Timers. When Schrade jumped on the stainless bandwagon, it’s as though they fell under the wheels. The carbon Schrade continues. David Bradshaw

Man that story dragged up a long lost piece of memory for me... When I was about 10, 1962, I asked my mother for a knife much like that for my birthday from SEARS. My father found out about it and nixed the order. Instead he went up in the attic and rummaged through "his" box that contained a lot of items from when he was in the Navy in WWII...and this is what he handed me... He used a woodburning tool to put my name on the sheath... It was the only large knife I owned till after I graduated from high school... Thanks for the memory...Bob

Yup, I like that service blade too. A stouter version of the Ka-Bar. I've seen it called the Quarter Master.

One of my first knives was also an Old Timer that I got back when I was in high school in the early 70's. It is a great knife and I still carry it from time to time. I also got the smaller Old Timer skinning knife that came with a subscription to Guns & Ammo at one time:

I always thought that CASE made the Quartermaster but apparently both CASE and Cattaraugus both made them for the military... www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/wwii-%E2%80%93-the-cattaraugus-225-q-commando.685606/My father had a second knife that was a Roberson or Robinson, can't remember which. He gave that one to my brother but it ended up with me... It resides in my trucks emergency kit... Bob

I didn't know much about it until recently I tried to figure out if it was a good knife. It looks just like that with the sheath. What I found was that most likely it was from WWII, further it was considered a great knife and highly desirable. Who knew?
