Here is a slick sixgun I just got back from Alan Harton. It began life as a 6.5" 29-2, but N frames with barrels longer than 4" just don't do a lot for me. I considered having the barrel chopped to 4", or even send it off to MagNaPort to be turned into one of their Combat Minis. Well, along came a 6.5" Pre-24 barrel and that started the wheels turning.
A while back, I talked to Alan about the possibility of cutting the 44 special barrel to 4" and he let me know that wouldn't be a problem at all! Everything was boxed up and sent to Houston along with my list of what all I wanted him to do, and the wait began. Modifications requested were as follows:
Fit and cut pre-24 barrel to 4" Remove and reuse pre-24 sight base on shortened barrel Fit ramped Patridge style sight blade with white line Blackpowder bevel the cylinder Trim hammer spur Smooth and radius trigger Regulate front sight height for my preferred S&W 44 mag load of a Keith bullet over 10 grains of Unique
The sixgun already had a slick trigger so no action work was requested.
When I finally heard from Alan that he was working on the 44, I decided to have him remove part of the roll mark on the right side of the barrel. He welded over the 'Special CTG', leaving a rather well centered '44 S&W'...kinda cool!
What I've ended up with is, a square butt Mountain Gun of sorts.... Only slightly heavier than my 4" 624, this 'new' sixgun will be the 'Stunt Double' to my dear 'Mary Gun'. I've been advised by my sons that I shouldn't use the Mary Gun as a carry gun, so now I have this one to carry when I'm in a sixgun mood. The gun currently is wearing a set of walnut Culina Magnas.
I had a chance to shoot the gun with some Skeeter loads right after receiving it. A few cylinders full at 50 yards showed that the gun will shoot! I'm looking forward to spending some more time with this one.... Thanks Alan!

That's a really slick lookin 44 S&W I Really like that new F-sight blade. I wish all revolvers had that style/profile blade!!! Gets me wanting my 6" 29 to shrink to a 4" even more! Enjoy your new sixgun. BigBore44

Looks great Mike! Now have your son make a real holster for it of his own design! Tell him to turn the creative inner beast loose and see what he comes up with.

That right there is sweet, slick and plumb purty! There is something about a 4" N frame that just looks "right." And the little details just make it look "right-er"!
