Good day all. I plan to purchase a reserve qty for future bullet casting. Don't plan to heat treat after casting, most bullets will be for mild to heavy 45 colt , 45-70, 38/357. Zipmetals offers a variety of casting material. What to choose?

ZIp seems pretty pricey, but I will admit I haven't looked in a while. When I was looking I would lurk around castboolits and jump on some that popped up.
I personally like the radiology lead I picked up on CB (aaron on this forum) and the alloy is pretty good for casting/shooting/hunting.
Others with more experience will be along shortly.

For the applications you mention I'd just buy range scrap metal where ever I could find it & be very happy. WW's are great but becoming hard to find. No need to buy expensive certified alloy for handguns or slow rifle loads, just my opinion.

Missouri bullets seems to have the best price on bulk lead and in different alloys with 65# flat rate shipping. You didn't say how much you want, but if you are looking at larger qualities and live near a foundry that deals in lead alloys you might find a better price. Major port cities tend to have them, like Seattle.

If you live near the coast look for junk sailboats the Keels in them are often lead. And can be gotten free or cheap. I bought one in Florida 3000lb for $300. Of course I had to cut the boat apart and melt this giant block. Sadly I moved to Idaho and didn't get to take much with me. Now looking for a similar opportunity.
Good luck

Zipmetals offers a variety of casting material. What to choose? What kind of bullet lubrication will be using. With powder coat and Hi-tec your able to use softer lead without to much worry of leading. Which in turn will save you from buying expensive lead to make bullets. There's a gentlemen in Utah that has allot of range scrap for sale at a decent price. His alloy is averaging 10 BHN. Jetsfan on the castboolit website is also a straight shooter if you want WW lead.

Lucky13 bullets out of kernersville NC is closing up shop and selling all his lead. You may want to contact Don and ask about a bulk price.
