I recently purchased a new Ruger from the Ruger Forum. Make no mistake, I am very happy with the purchase with no buyers remorse whatsoever, just have a couple of questions. It was advertised as a Ruger Single Six .22 mag. Which it is. Cylinder holds .22 mag rounds. But was it originally a convertible??? It doesn't say .22 mag on the side, just Ruger .22 cal single six. Did Ruger make a .22 mag only gun? Secondly, love the front site. is it stock or aftermarket? Thanks for any and all info Rob

I'd suspect it had both cylinders at one time.

Ruger did have a small run of magnum only but if memory serves it was on single sixes aka flat tops, not adj sight SS6. Because it's a screwed in sight people do change them to Mark 1 or 2 sights, other series SS6 sights, SBH sight, etc. I think yours are stock ones. What I meant to say was stock that someone modified slightly. IMO

You gun is what was termed Super Single Six 1964-1972, what made it "Super" was adjustable sights, your front sight appears correct and should have a little hook cut, they were also convertibles. Earlier Super Single Six's came NO Prefix sn# 1964-1969 (50001), later have Prefix. 1970-72 (60-13852)

This is the serial number range that I have "Earlier Super Single Six's came NO Prefix sn# 1964-1969 (50001)" so it must be correct front sight. So it IS supposed to have a second cylinder? or not. It does not say Super Single six on the side.
Thanks all for the input.

I have a 6 1/2" Super Single Six Serial #60-19914 that came in a box that says 22 W.M.R Revolver. The cylinder is not marked with the last 3 numbers of the Serial Number. Dougans book "Single Actions: The Second Decade" says they were shipped with just the magnum cylinder, but I couldn't get this verified by Ruger. Does anybody else have one like this? The rest of my Old Model Super Single Sixes have 22 Caliber Revolver on the end labels Ron.

I had one just like your but 5.5" barrel, it had the 22LR cylinder only bc the previous owner couldn't find it after her hubby past. That scenario has happened many times. your can simply go on ebay and get the other cylinder cheap, GB also has them , 22LR & mag even old model are the most prevalent available in numbers.

I don't really need the LR cylinder. and this IS a 5.5" barrel. my absolute favorite barrel length.

If you PM me your serial number,, I can look it up in my RENE Guide & tell you what version it shipped as, and the year it was shipped.
Next,, the only "Magnum Only" ones were marked accordingly. Plus their serial number range is 300000 to as high as 398349. There are some gaps in production & numbers in this range too. When they first came out,, they were 22 Mag only. Later on,, Ruger started adding a 22 LR cylinder to them. BUT,,,,,,, all these models had a 6-1/2" bbl. Now,,, the adjustable sights,, denote it as a Super Single Six. It will not have the word "Super" in the rollmark. Serial numbers started at 400001 to 572014,, and there were some gaps in numbers in this model as well. Then in 1969,,Ruger added a "prefix" (Thanks to the GCA Act of 1968) of 60-00001 & up to 61-11136.

Thanks, I will send you the PM. It just seemed strange, a 5.5" barrel with a different front sight being sold as a magnum but saying single six on the side.
It's is an awesome gun, looks great, perfect barrel length, definitely a keeper. I have already put a steel ERH on it and am having a SBH hammer made for it as well.
Thanks again everyone for their insight

Thanks again everyone for their insight I will show you a .22 Magnum only when we get together. It is going to Turnbulls sometime to be refinished. I bought it for that reason. Needs to go to Sam first. I have a 5 1/2" barrel that is going on it.
