Next month is my 45th birthday and I thought it would be fitting to get a .45. Final budget isn't set yet but probably in the $500-600 range. If anyone finds one in their online travels I'd appreciate a head's up... Thanks!

It'll be a real find to locate one in that price range. The 45 Colt M25's aren't thick on the ground to begin with, and the 4" guns tend to be the hardest to locate. Good luck with your search!

oregon45, that's kind of what I'm finding in my search so that's why I thought I'd try this thread. Gunbroker has completed auctions for the 4" anywhere from $600-1200 so it's hard to gauge actual street price.
Thanks BB!
A .45 4" N Frame is what I really want but if I can run down a 4" Model 29 near that price range (maybe even in nickel if things REALLY fall right) I suppose that would be OK but .44 is a new caliber to feed...

I'm watching that one but it's already over my ceiling. I've been hitting GB, Guns International and the S&W Forum several times a day. I may just have to keep rolling the pennies until after my birthday to open up my options.

.44 is a new caliber to feed... Say it ain't so! Not having a 44 in the stable just ain't natural.

I usually see 3-4 a year for sale in local gun shops around me. I'll keep an eye out but They usually run in the $750-900.00 range. Edited to add: Yours is a worthy endevour though.

.44 is a new caliber to feed... Say it ain't so! Not having a 44 in the stable just ain't natural. I've had 2 experiences with .44s. One was a .44 Mag T/C pistol which I found out later is not an ideal combo when full house loads and the factory grip are used. The other was one of the Lipsey .44 Special Vaqueros. The T/C like to broke my thumb (OK, maybe a slight exaggeration) and the Vaq left me thinking it didn't do anything any better than my .45s which is too bad because I was excited to try the .44 Special. I'm thinking if I wasn't already somewhat invested in the .45s I might be more open to the .44. Another part of the problem is I'm stuck on the prices of 10 years ago when I got out of the S&W world. I know the current pricing is the new reality so at some point I will just have to grit my teeth and pay the man. It just means my idea of having one by mid-December is extremely optimistic but I knew that going in.

Yeah, current S&W prices are up there, I can't believe even my 28-2 that just went down the road has gone up soooooo much in value since I bought it. But TX Gun Trader has them show up time to time around $1000. I'll keep my eye out for ya, but you didn't mention if you wanted pre side lock or not, new one's with the lock are in your price range.

I guess that is an important tidbit. Pre-lock for sure. I have visions of this becoming a low key barbecue gun and the lock does nothing but detract from the looks IMO. Found a hang tag in my safe a couple of months ago from a 4" 27-2 I used to have. The stocks were beat up and the finish was 80% or less but it had the sweetest DA trigger I've ever handled. $339 with the box. And I sold it a couple of years later for probably $350-375. One of my unsmarter moves...
